Hi guys, Can anyone tell me what the MVS game boxes are actually called and where i may be able to pick them up from? preferably in the UK but if the prices are ok i am happy to have them shipped internationally. anyone have any ideas? thanks,
thanks for the reply, im not sure of the difference mate, its just to keep them safe and print off a nice label for them, so i suppose either would do
Well the brown boxes are the original packaging. It keeps them safe, but they'd wear off easily and of course, these are collector's items and not easily acquirable. Shockboxes are a different story. Unofficial cases made for fans without any value for collector's except for if they wanna make it look like an AES collection.
thanks for the reply mate, i guess shockboxes it is then, im not looking at my MVS as a collection as such (well not one worth any money) i would just like as many games as possible that are reasonably priced and the rest I will get on Multi-carts (infact i prefer multicarts so i dont have to open the cab to change the game each time, its a bit more difficult when your having a party and pissed) now gotta find somewhere in the UK hopefully that stocks them
If you're just looking for something to protect your games and make them look nice on the shelf, you have two main options: neominibox or the previously mentioned Shockbox. Have a look at this thread over on N-G.com to find out all about the neominibox. The guy's also located in Europe so this is going to be your cheapest option: 10 boxes with labels are €30 / £25ish (plus shipping). Shockboxes are available from SouthTown-Homebrew, who also host all the fan-made inserts to put in said boxes. They are quite a bit more expensive, each box is $8 / £5ish but the postage adds a lot to the cost. Shipping for 10 of them to the UK was $47.60 which brings the total to £80, or £8 per box. They do look much more like AES cases when you have a nice insert in there, and they're also going to be more hard waring than a cardboard box. EDIT: Took ages to write that post as I was cooking the kids' tea. Anyway, you won't find anyone in the UK selling Shockboxes, you'l have to order directly from SouthTown. Just hope that you don't get stung by UK customs....
What Ave said. Edit and what _SD_ said! lol @ my slow posting (at work so understandable!) The original kit boxes - well you'd likely get a few of these over time when buying carts (assuming you go down the kit route as opposed to bare carts). Of course it's much easier and cheaper to buy bare carts and store them yourself. There are various types of similarish boxes you can get to house your carts. When I bought Fast Striker kit it came in a modern day generic box...'Postbox' was the brand iirc. However there is the delightful 'Shockbox' which was a fanmade design specifically to house MVS carts, but with the ability to have a lovely custom made insert. There are hundreds of inserts out there, some look really great, some not so. http://southtown-homebrew.com/index.php?cPath=1&osCsid=026e448e21bda4c7fa2741e3d26c0001 is a good place to have a look round I think (but tbh as a collector myself I prefer homecarts / full kits so don't actually have any shockbox stuff save for aftermarket releases). For some of the games with multiple titles in the series there are even inserts where the spines line up to create fab composite images (like some old video / dvd boxsets).
Hmm interesting, thanks for the replies from both of you @_SD_ - hope you didn't burn anything you were cooking and yes the Cardboard boxes dont look bad but I am worried about wear and tear over time @wheelaa - the shockboxes do look nice and as much as im a collector i have serious OCD and would want them all in the same sort of packaging where possible so the shockboxes might be the best solution thanks alot you have both given me a lot to think about
