I have an original MVS (MV-1?) board with the controller ports, etc.

The problem is some noob put it in a non MVS cab with the board set to
mvs and *sizzle* no sound. There is sound from the headphone jack.

Anyone know what part burns out? I traced the sound back to
a bunch of what looks like voltage regs.

From what I've been told its the audio amp itself that burns out.

Not sure why thered be regs on the board, id have thought it got all the voltages it needed from the power supply.

Edit: Just looked up a picture, there does indeed seem to be a voltage reg on the board. Just to the left of that is what I believe to be the audio amp. You can run a finger over the solder on the bottom of the amp, if you get no sound then its blown.

    Assembler,

I think in this case, I'll have to recommend going to neo-geo.com for this one. Theres enough neo tech heads there to solve pretty much anything. The user channelmaniac there seems particularly good, and particularly helpful (helped me troubleshoot my Burgertime PCB).

Let us know how it goes!

(PS, despite what everyone says, World Heroes is awesome).

Ah, I'd rather light it on fire than go there, sorry.

Can you post up a pic of the board, and the part numbers off the regs that you traced back to? It is possible that they are not regs, although it sounds like they are.

It's most likely an amp. I packed it away today as I am moving soon anyways and won't have time to fix it .

Check www.hardmvs.com, here you have the manuals of the mvs systems with the components.

I was under the impression that the 1-slot mvs board is JAMMA compatible? (but the multislots use other wire'ing)

They are, however some models of the 1 slot have a mono/stereo switch. If this is set to stereo they must be wired up like a multislot board.

Yes, installing the board directly into JAMMA will damage the amp.

It is quite common for some capacitors to need replacing on MVS boards as a matter of course. Mind you, if you're hearing sound from the headphone socket, then they could be OK. Take a look at the HA13001 amp, but also check the capacitors. There should be 11 electrolytics near the amp.

If you need any help, just give me a shout.

The caps seemed fine, I think the amp is just blown.

    Any source for the amps?

That's really good, normal price is around $14, when you can find them. I'd stock up on a few, personally!

Well the guy doesn't have them lol.

I have two more boards in, a 4 slot with no sound at all,
and a two slot with sound out of the headphones but not
being sent to the jamma pins...

That makes for three fucked up boards.

I have a mvs-jamma converter from jammaboards and
    I get nothing...

So now I guess I need three amps? ugh.

I found a great tech help and recap kits for all neo MVS

    "Yes,

Sound issues on the MVS boards are almost 100% cap related.

I have cap kits for some of the boards up on my website.

    http://www.arcadecomponents.com/capkits.html

Just BEWARE that some of the caps require quite a bit of heat to cleanly desolder. They had some amazing ground traces running through the middle of the board that can absorb a huge amount of heat.

Those caps are a very common problem. If you don't want to install them yourself I charge $35 a board (parts included, plus shipping) to put those kits in. There are a LOT of caps to replace on those.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but that's me and my website. ;)

If you guys/gals have any questions on MVS hardware problems give me a shout. Those boards are a specialty of mine.

Also, if you want to try and tackle the repairs yourself, take a look at my repair logs as you may find them helpful:
