I'm working on my first game project for some time now. It's a Alex Kidd remake done in XNA (PC). It will have hand draw graphics and will run in hi-res. The source code will be publicly available. We'll probably do just the first two levels, then open the source code. The graphics are not done yet but you can see an early preview here (graphics ripped from original rom): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l60iy9oj28w And this is how the sprites will look: What do you guys think?
Maybe you should base the background graphics on the Mega Drive game just to give it a little bit more of a modern look?
Graphics will be hand-draw. And it will have background layers with parallax scroll ;-) I will have a new version with the new graphics in a few days...
I think the remake is pretty damn good. And what it needs is music, and perhaps you should maybe have an "SMS" mode to it. Cause Alex Kidd in Miracle World on the SMS was really something I personally loved. What about making a PC remake too, so others can enjoy the good old game ?
It will have the original graphics, and can switch between them in real time. Currently, it's only for PC. It can be compiled for Xbox360, but I don't want to mess with Sega.
Looking forward to this; good luck! I've always wanted a 3D Alex Kidd "64" type game - with blocks everywhere you could punch.
Thanks for the comments. Good point, Ollie. I already talked about it with the artist. He will fix it. Music probably will be the last thing to add. We need a musician ;-)
