Long before I been collecting video games I love to draw. I was dreaming of being a cartoon animator but my life gone a diffent pass but I still love to draw and I did some video game related fan art and here's some of my art and its back story behind it.
The Last Software: In here I took the Last Supper paniting and replace it with The Last Software. some of the well known Video Game Characters from Atari, Nintendo, Sega and the rest. I use the Atari Jaguar as well Im not going to say it if you don't know who he's going to be and so here the other ones from left to right of the tabel and they are Pac-Man, Q*bert, Frogger, Donkey Kong, Mario, Pauline, Kuckles, Princess Sally, Earthworm Jim, Gex and Crash. The first thing I did was to ink the video game gang on copy papers the water color each of them and then I cut out a long cardbord and paint the back drop, Then I cut out the water colored Video Game Characters and glue them on the painted backdrop and also cut cut out some photos of video game consoles from Atari Pong to PS2.
Mario The Renaissance Man: We seem them and played them for all our lifes from Atari 2600 to todays Xbox and Im talking about Video Game mascots, lets start with the first super star in the 1980 we seen there Official Game mascot like Namco's Pacman made it self a huge super-star and made things like Toys, t-shirt and even cartoon show but then came Mario in 1981 Donkey Kong and then it has a life of its own. After many Super Mario games Nintendo made Mario its Big N mascot and then came Sega's Sonic and trying to un-seat the Mario's Mascot's Kingdom! But after many years of "The Console Wars" with both Nindendo's Super NES and Sega's Genesis in a no hold-bars Mario vs. Sonic with funny cacth frase like Sega's "Ninten-dont" and Nintendo's "Gen-isn't" in the end Mario came out the winner and to making it worst for Sega they made Soinc game for Nintendo's consoles... Well here's my take on who's the king of video gaming baby! So how does an ordinary Italian from Brooklyn reach international superstar status? Well lets look at his past jobs, A Carpenter - from Donkey Kong 1981. A Jailer - from Donkey Kong JR 1982. A Plubmer - from Super Mario Bros 1985. A Ariplane Piolt - from Super Mario Land 1989. A Doctor- from Dr.Mario 1990. A Super Hero - from Super Mario World 1991. A Golf Player - from Golf 1985. A Feferee - from NES Punch-Out!! 1987. A Painter - from Mario Paint 1992. A Baker - from Yoshi's Cookie. A Kart Racer - from Super Maio Kart 1991. A Fighter - from Super Smash Bros 1997. And so on and so on...
Mario And Sonic Playing TRON: Here's my take on a WHAT IF both two already video game characters Mario & Sonic playing in a TRON-World level. Mario's outfit is color RED cuase his hat and shirt is red too soo I pick him to be RED and Sonic outfit is BLUE cuase well Sonic is blue all over.
Mario The Movie: In 1996 I had an idea of what if Nintendo made a movie bace on Mario's life. So I came up a action/comady cartoon movie called 'Mario The Movie' In this film its set in the year 1931 in old New York where Mario and Luige need nto make money for there late rent and with them in the help I had to to add a NEW cast from an old Nintendo video game name 'Stanley the Bugman' Stanley was from Donkey Kong 3. Stanley is Mario Bros's best frined but acks very mean to the two like how Moe from Three Stooges. Anyway there are three part acts in this mockup movie. The 1th ACT: Mario, Luige and Stanley are trying to earn money but found them self in the Mushroom World and saving Princess Toldstool from Bowser. The 2nd ACT: All three was trying to get back home but found yet aother world in Dream Land and Luige was falled in love by Princess Daisy and had to stop Wart. The 3rd ACT: The three are back in Brooklyn but then Mario's old girl friend 'Pauline' takin by who else DK him self and will they are have to fine her in the jungle with Stanley's old plane. Then thats not all once they came back to NY Pauline was yet again kidnap by DK and head to of all place The Empire State Building and then in the middile of saving her a huge airship came out from the sky and will you cane see how huge that movie would had been.
Sonic The Motion Picture: After I was done making up an idea of Mario The Movie I had to make one up for Sonic The Hedgehog and so I look back and some good old Sega games to see if I can add more cast memebers wwith the already known Sonic and his friends like Tail and Sally and one I found to be a great part for the movie idea with Sonic. Log ago when Sonic was huge in the mid 90s with all the cartoon shows I had a short dream of him being in a film in the middle of that film I saw the blue guy in danger and then some one came and saved him then I remeber who he looked like. He is an old hero from the past and it was Frogger. I know that Frogger was crated by Konami but remeber that in 81 Sega has the rights to make it in both Arcades and Home Consoles like Atari 2600, Colecovision, Intellivision and others. And in the story line Frogger is over 200 years old and seen Sonic as the next big saver to the planet and soo I see them 'Sonic & Frogger' is to 'Luke & Obi-Wan'. So I started to draw some seens that what may had look like with Sonic and Frogger. There's also a back-story of how Julian (aka Doc Robotnik) became who he is, about 50 some years before Sonic was born Frogger and his partner Alex Kidd who is also a old Sega game player as well fines a small boy in a town they was saving from a un-known alien from space called them self "The Zaxxon" by know you know where this is heading at. Soo I wanted a huge flash-back with them and well as Frogger waiting for many years later to fine out the the Zaxxon are coming back to Mobius and hope to seek Sonic for help and to stop the evil invaders once and for all. On a side note if there was a cartoon film of Sonci and they used Frooger I would like to have Frogger's voice to sound just like Shon Connery cuase his voice would sound just right for Frogger and also have a side-link with Highlander feel to it.
Atari Dumbo Label Recreation: For years many had got the Dumbo game for the 2600 but I like to do a recreat a label for it and I gone and just done that. This game was never release in stores and only the prototype ROM was ever found but they did shown the box art on a Atari AD so I use it to remake the label. First I had to use what ever image of the origanl Dumbo image I can fine then re-size it to its highess size image so I can re-trace it using GIMP then after I ink it I then try to color it by macthing the color from the old box image of the game then after that I then had to remake the back drop GRID lines to try to make it look from the real cart then I had to drew the title texts cuase I cant fine out whats the naem of the texts they use. After all that then I made the label and it came out like 96% close to the real cart label and here it is with the two High Rez Label prints and also in BMP.
Great artwork there man. You have alot of talent. I enjoy drawing video game characters as well but mine arnt as good as yours. Keep it up ^^
I've got to say that is pretty impressive artwork! How long did it take to complete most of the projects?
I really like the art work,I draw as well.I wanted to be a animator when I was younger but now Im a musician.Keep up the good work and stick with it.
Them pics are quite impressive.(^_^) I enjoy a bit of painting and drawing too. I love Yoji Shinkawa's style. Outside of games, I prefer a bit of Leon Golub. When I've got some time, I'll try and post some pics of my stuff (game related).
If you dont know what's Knight Rider is (FOR SHAME!) But really some one at AtariAge is making a new Atari 2600 game base on the Knight Rider TV show so I did a label art for both the box art and label cart I drew this all under GIMP paint program with no paper or pencil at all cuase my scanner still not working right but I just could not wait for it so I had to make the label art just in case its dose created Im hand drawing the label in GIMP only and a mouse and here's the first pencil line art of the label. The next thing is coloring the main cast members Like David Hasselhoff on Gimp and just to give you an idea on how long I did him again I'm using Gimp only like in layers I had to use 18 layers, 5 on his hair alone and doing lots of smugde on the colors, almost like finger painting but on a mouse, Remebr I trying to make this 2600 label as close to the origanil Atari 2600 box art. Next is KITT! "BEHOLD THE ALMIGHTY HASSELHOFF AND HIS HAIR!" The next one is just K.I.T.T. well he is just a car os its abit eazyer
opcode had ported three classic Pac-Man arcade games into the Colecovision cartridge to play on a real Colecovision console games like Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man Plus. and he wanted some one to made a cover box for the game and I made this poster made in Gimp program everything you see there are all 100% mouse drawn from the backdrop, maze and the three cast Pac-Man Ms Pac-Man and the Blue Ghost. Took me a week but here's the final poster art for the game cover and label art. Lets hope he likes it enough to use it but who knows^_^
Last year I was on AtarAge's forums and was chatting with Howard Scott Warshaw ex-Atari programer and was telling every one that he'll be programing a all NEW Atari 2600 game call 'Yar's Return' the sequel to his 1981 Yar's Revenge game he first made. Then this year Atari releace the new Flashback 2 with 40 games and one of them is the new Yar's Return - [link] with more action to the last one and so I wanted to make my own 2600 label art for the game cart once I can dunb it and burn it on a real cart and all so I started drawing the new Yar's label using only GIMP program and a mouse and I also used some of the old Yar's Revenge comic art for some idea on how it would look and so I drew everything from drawing the Space-Fly, the backdrop even the Fly's Fire-Ball just with Gimp, no paper at all, crazy I know but I cant wait for my scanner to work^_^ Anyway here's the game poster I made to make it looks like a old Atari Poster Ad from the 80s. Then later made it into a label sticker to play on a real 2600 cart both in origanil Black Picture and Silver labels. Hope you guys like it cuase I love playing this game.
Atariboy: you are exstremely talented, and I am astounded by it, so keep up the god work, and for other members, that I have seen their drawings, keep up the good work ! origanil = original, Sir
Last year one of the user at Atariage had hacked one of an old 2600 game Pac-Man to make it look like the real arcade port, Here's the before and after Pac-Man hack. so I gone and re-made an old origanl 1982 Pac-Man label and re-drew for the new Pac-Man 8K call 'Pac-Man Arcade Edition' and I hand drew it 95% in GIMP and only use a mouse the 5% I used a Pacman text. Here's some of my images I use for the Pac-Man label I first drew Pac-Man in that same old pose from the origanl Pac-Man label then drew the Ghosts and even had to draw the maze it self and the two High Rez JPG images for the label print.
