I had been using my Duo-R a lot. I got a ton of use out of it, I mean I used it for hours, even more after I got my Hori fighting stick. Which I used for all the greatest schmups on the Pc engine which I loaded off my turbodrive. I had alot of fun with R-type, Gunhead and Super star soldiers. ... But alas my pc engine does not work anymore. I live in the US and I never even considered buying a step down voltage converter. Could this have destroyed it? The console kind of works, I get sound out of one speaker on the tv and the discs will play and it will light up but no display on the screen. If I buy a new power supply and voltage adapter do you think it will work normally?
I'm going to test the AC adapter as soon as I get my multi meter in the mail. I am praying that is the issue, I found a site called game doctor hong kong and I can get a new power supply from there but a generic power supply will probably degrade the picture a little bit at least that's what happened with retro bit one I got for my SNES.
You probably don't really need a step down if you are in the US. There is likely something else going on that is causing your problems. The original AC adapter is supposed to convert 100VAC to 9VDC. In the US you voltage can range from 110 to 120. This might mean slightly higher DC output voltage, but it's going to a regulator which can probably take up to 12VDC fine. So I wouldn't worry about it. If you change the polarity on a Sega Genesis Model 1 Power Supply, it would be plenty to power the DUO. The Genesis Model 1 uses Center Negative where as the DUO uses Center Positive.
You have no image ever and sound on only one side but console seems to work? Could be broken solder joints on the AV port, if you wiggle the AV plug, does it change anything?
I don't know how but I just got it to work with all the same hardware. the av port does feel really loose i will have to open it up and plug it in from the inside and wiggle it. I'm shocked it showed up on the screen. I always expect the worse from stuff like this. The only thing I did was try to test the power supply with my multi meter and store the console in its box for awhile.
