As a new user I have been confused by the way in which I was greeted to this forum. A very sexist warning that anyone with a female name will have their names removed simply because of the alleged and expected behavior of others.

How about doing your job as an overseer and make sure that people are treated equally and not harassed? if it were anyone with an "ethnic" name that were targets of unwanted attention would you have the same policy?

I belong to a gaming forum called AtariAge that has hundreds of women users and the very idea that they would be considered 2nd class citizens as they seem to be here, is unacceptable.

Add to that the air of superiority that the admins and some users seems to wield here and I just find the whole place to be distasteful.

Get over yourselves... you are NOT the be all end all know-it-all of gaming obscurity, you're just not. The sooner you decide to be more gracious and humble and actually HELP users instead of treating them like fodder, the better.

I suppose now that I have voiced this criticism, I will be summarily removed.

    so be it.

Purely because the spam bots use female names.

    You sound a bit crazy.

No one said they were. You are imagining all this in your mind,
which seems to be a bit unbalanced going by the above quote.

Then go back to IGN or wherever you feel at home. If you don't like the forum, leave.

    1. We've never claimed to be the know-all, end-all of obscurity.
    2. We're not here to pander to you. The forum is what it is,
I have no idea what sense of self entitlement you have
but, we're not here to cater to one individual, sorry.
3.This is a GAME forum, not world politics or famine relief.
No need to be so serious.

Assumption:a proposition that is taken for granted, as if it were true based upon presupposition without preponderence of the facts.

So all this fuss over not being able to have a female name?

To me it sounds like someone who enjoys the attention of being female in a room packed with guys. Take that away and I guess there is no point to hang around.

....Why does anyone have to comment on this post in a wierd manner?
Maybe if you guys didnt give a damn about this thread and let assembler handle the job would be better.

you are funny. this is one of the best moderated, more open minded forums i've ever seen in years in the net. most users are helpful far beyond the normal internet customs of "google it yourself".

talking about kev he's a nice guy... i guess that we mods are a bunch of bastards uh? :D expecially me and paulo ;) we're the 2 most discussed ones i guess.

in any case i consider this place a heaven.

I think the moderation here is excellent.

Conversation is allowed so far as it doesn't have the potential to hurt the site legally. We're all adults. So, generally, nobody gets a ribbing unless they ask for it. I can't think of any time that anyone has ever legitimately complained about being bullied. I think that this is pretty impressive, considering the fact that members of this site come from such wide backgrounds georaphically, politically and socially.

With regards to women users, they are here...lurking. More limited appeal more limited demographic. Women users are always welcome. Generally, nobody cares that much though. This is a website about games. We keep the politics and whatnot to a minimum because we know it gets bad.

ASSEMbler, as he stated, has certain filters that ban certain email addresses and usernames from registering. These filters occasionally do catch a legitimate user. In thew few years since the filters have been put on (a little bit of forum research suggests that they were added in 2006), I have only seen two legitimate users complaing online about not being able to register the name that they want. ASSEMbler fixes these problems when they are brought to his attention.

There MAY be better ways to handle these issues, but this website isn't ASSEMbler's full time job, and he has never claimed to be a professional web developer or whatnot. The site fuctions and I don't see anbody else offering to take the job (in fact, last time that happened...things went bad).

With regards to deference to certain members getting a little bit more respect and deference...I would say that they get it for a reason. Most of the people who are top posters here are deeply involved in gaming. They run web sites, make web-shows, and otherwise contribute to collecting and gaming.

What you consider undue deference is probably a lack of anything bad to say about a user. Ie: Yakumo. Retro Core, Segagaga Domain, Sales, always posting interesting videos, generally pleasant fellow, it seems. Deference deserved.

Deference and reverence for users is fine as long as other users don't get crapped on for no reason. They don't. Despite what the OP says, there are no real problems with harassment, etc. Spending time here will show you that.

You're only two posts in, OP, stick around for awhile and see what it's like here. We'll try our best to forget about this thread.

I've never felt 'second class' in comparison to those with more posts or moderator status.

Everyone is considerate to others and questions are often answered quickly and tactfully- everyone here is out to help each other.

All of this because she/he posted in the marketplace forums and they got deleted for not following the rules according to Paulo.
