so, after some sort of 3 month back order, i finally got my capacitors to repair my VA6 Genesis, got a bunch of caps out and put a couple in then had to stop... I mis-ordered capacitors, so much of my work stopped :grief:. all that frustrating work trying to get all the stubborn old caps out and trying to put in 22 new ones to find out I don't have the right amount of the right caps. lesson of the story... the force is not with me, luckily the caps I need can be picked up at a Radio Shack. Vector Man here I come :love-struck:
lol that sucks. hope you get it working, tip: make a note as you go of what caps you need then stick to it when ordering
that's the best part, i did note all the caps i needed double checked before i ordered. i was probably just looking at the wrong board XD
Hahaha, I'm sure it happens to the best of us at times! I ordered a stack of caps for a few SNES units, I reckon I would have got something wrong... we'll know tomorrow! What method are you using to remove the old caps off the board anyhow? Desolder braid or a desolder gun?
i'm worming them out with needle nose pliers and a soldering iron, i have some old desoldering punch that was my dads but it is filled up and needs a new tip. once i get a method down there are only a few pesky ones
Yup, always make a list beforehand - preferably from the service manual if you have it. Then double check it, and triple check against your PCB. This could have gone in the repair section, you know - it isn't off topic
Now it's off topic! :wink-new: Side note and I suppose back on topic, I've never been very good at those manual solder suckers! Give me something with a motorised vacuum any day, although I don't mind cracking out the braid for smaller jobs! :topsy_turvy: Edit: Oh yes! The manuals, we recently came across a bunch of those for Mega Drive / Genesis didn't we!
You prefer your suckers to have a motor, eh? I dunno, I think I prefer a manual suck! Yeah, some fool paid a load of money for the manuals
Hahaha, you dirty bugger! :wink-new: Mine's only a single speed motor anyway, can't vary it and it's quite cold of a morning. ...which doesn't really remind me but I did remember this... I still have some of the Saturn manuals around that were meant to make their way to the UK to the top donator!
