hello everyone i have a hardware question i have an old modded xbox 1 when i press the power button once it turns on for a split second and you can hear the fans start then it turns its self off does it again and turns off then it boots and it flashes green and orange any ideas? i thought it might be the power supply so i bought 2 new ones installed it and it still does it ANY help would be amazing thanks:shrug: here is a video link of my issue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZFQMg9f_H4
Bad HDD will cause that as well, so will lacking a cable in the video port. Check the modchip as well, make sure it doesn't have broken joints and such.
In the video you don't have a harddrive or a DVD-ROM, pop those in and then tell us what it does as an orange light flashing typically means you don't have a video cable plugged in. However different BIOSes do different things for different reasons. There is also a pin header soldered into the LPC bus telling me it likely had a mod chip and probably still needs it. My guess is that it's trying to boot from the LPC bus but since there isn't a modchip it is supposed to do what it's doing but instead of orange it usually flashes red/green. Without a video cable it (should) do what you're seeing there.
hi APE thanks for the advise however it did the same things as shown in the video with everything plugged into it. i have to go to work now but tonight i will plug everything back into it and make a new video of it trying to boot
I'd have to guess that it's orange due to the BIOS being modified to flash orange for whatever reason. I'd highly suggest grabbing a Duo x2 (2x?) chip from www.dealextreme.com and try to mount it on the pin header and see what it does. 99% of the time installing a modchip into an XBox will fix virtually all problems that are related to the software portion of the hardware. It looks like it'd boot just fine if it could *load* something. But if you end up wanting to trash it I do need a new DVD-ROM.
iirc when the consoles turns on off on off on off its usually related to loose modchip wires or a bad flash or needs to have bios reflashed.
Borrow thread Is it possible to straight swap a STD HDD with a STD HDD? If the HDD is broken wont the Xbox start? (STD or Modded)
Seriously man it does look like the EEPROM is corrupted. (because of the fan spinning at maximum speed after the first boot attempt) Did you play with that ? And unfortunately to boot it you need to either remove the eeprom from the board. It's a I2C eeprom which isn't hard to program with some LPT flasher cable and a program called "Pony Prog". You can use Yoshihiro's "LiveInfo Beta 3" to edit the eeprom dump and fix whatever is wrong.
you can swap a HDD with another which has been unlocked if you have a modchip. For a softmod you can still swap Hdds but need to lock them with the HD key from the eprom. That's why I always make a backup of a box as soon as I get them. If you have the files for C & E partitions you can use xboxhdm 1.9 to make a bootable CD to prepare a HD with an old PC with IDE connection. If you also have a Eprom backup, there are also tools on that CD to lock/unlock the HD.
You can also boot a bios that has an eeprom embedded into it (assuming modchipped and externally flashable, otherwise reprogramming eeprom will be easier anyway). Info: http://www.xbins.org/nfo.php?file=xboxnfo831.nfo this takes me back, not touched an xbox in years
I think the OP mentioned it was TSOP flashed. Hence my suggestion of programming the eeprom externally. Mostly the repair method depends on how comfortable you are with removing an 8 pin SOIC from the board and putting it back later.
