My small but growing Dreamcast collection (plus Shining games collection)

Hey, here's my small DC collection. :) Obviously nothing compared to some of you guys but maybe putting this up will encourage me to build it. ;) Used to have all sorts of hardware and 90's Nintendo stuff but didn't really have the room and those Nintendo cardboard boxes were too easily damaged for me to look after properly. Despite being plastic, PAL DC boxes aren't much better though. Worst cases ever.

Long story short, a lot was sold off with money put towards a DC collection instead. I only had a few remnants from back in the day and was going to sell the DC stuff as well but couldn't do it.

I picked up a Japanese (well Hong Kong) machine back when Shenmue was released in Japan. I still have the game clear save from 3 weeks after its launch. My Shenmue games here: both PAL and NTSC-J copies of one and 2, the "What's Shenmue?" disc and VF3:TB with Project Berkley disc. Remains a special game to me although I'll be the first to admit it hasn't aged as well as some other DC classics. Despite its technical shortcomings it still draws you into its Sega-inflected 80's renditions of Yokosuka and Hong Kong in a way few games come close to achieving.

The handful of PAL games and sole US game I have, Deep Fighter. DF may seem a bit random but I got it for 2 or 3 quid in a shop. Why not? :p White label Ecco and Action Replay CD-X demo disc which let me play MSR. Gotta love that a disc from a magazine allowed me to do that :D

More games, most of which will be familiar enough. I was very kindly given the Sega GT which is still sealed. Nadesico and Shutokou I came across in a shop for a few pounds each. Loved JSR back in the day but find it a bit too frustrating and annoying to play now. Used to play Crazy Taxi in the arcade every lunchtime when I was at Uni so the DC version was a God-send. Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram is, for me, maybe the best game on the machine. One of those games that seems to get forgotten about when "best of" lists are compiled. Never played with twin sticks though :(

Fighting games, mostly Capcom. I enjoy these games but suck at them. XD Wasn't particularly good back in the day and I'm even worse now. I bought a few of these from the same person and he threw in the Capcom v SNK 2 for free. Top bloke :)

Last of the games including Rez signed by Tetsuya Mizuguchi. Traded a CIB US Super Mario RPG for it. 2 Ikarugas because you can never have too many Treasure games. ;) Cosmic Smash is a personal favourite; a fun little arcade sports title. Giant Gram's another I randomly came across in a shop.

Peripherals. Still have a mouse but no mouse games. I remember playing Quake 3 with mouse to aim and controller to move lol. Not pictured but I do have a VGA box. Also one of those horrible Mad Catz 3rd party pads.

Old faithful herself, my original DC. Still works but is turning that lovely piss yellow that these machines are want to do. :(

    Regulation 7 Dreamcast.

Unsigned Maziora LE, in excellent, unused condition with outer shipping box. Bonus pic that captures the dual colouring from the pearlescent paint rather nicely.

So there we have it so far. Not the greatest but I'm happy with it. :)

    Update:

Some additions. Only played Grandia II in Japanese so it'll be good to give the US one a run through. That Yu Suzuki disc will be nice and convenient for playing his arcade classics without having to fire up Shenmue. :) Great to have Godzilla Generations again, one of the best gam...nah, just kidding it's abominable. XD Has Gojira film trailers on the disc though which is about its only redeeming feature.

It's not worth creating another topic for them but I'll add these Climax/Camelot era Shining games as well as they're my favourite series of games and the only series I collect. Personal favourite and favourite Saturn game is Shining the Holy Ark.

I'm not sure a collection with a minty Maziora with shipping box is 'modest'. Nice stuff :)

    Cheers guys. :)

The Maziora was obviously not cheap and it was a choice between that or using the funds for a load of games. It was a hard choice because this is a collection for playing, but I figured I possibly would never get another opportunity for one in that condition and it would be a nice centrepiece to build the collection around. The Maz isn't for playing even though it's very tempting. The R7 is though. :)

    nice! :smile-new:
looking to score a striker pad at some point, like the one in sixth image down. (saturn looking pad with vmu socket)
    ...
not bad at all, the hardware collection is impressive!
dunno about 'maziora' or whatever, that black DC is way better looking than my top-half blue DC, black IS the standard. (and hides heavy smoke activities great)
(old russian phrase: you can have any colour car as long as it's black.)
    [edit]
    typo.

Added some new games to the first post as well as my Shining games (not worth starting a separate topic for them). :)
