as said it started skipping during fmv... during the rest of the loading it never showed any problem... any suggestion? i've tried using a laser lense cd cleaner and the situation improved a bit... hope it doesn't die too soon.... ps2 are still damn expensive for the technology they have...
what your xbox doesn't have, games genres different than FPSs, and rpgs. :smt045:smt045 please, stop your casual-ish gamer attittude, it's not even funny. People hating and loving a console for what it is are called fanboys. You should compare consoles by their games, not by the console itself, not it's power. And since 75+% of the games on your lovely xbox are also on your ps2 (and the majority of the rest is FPS ported from PC ). well,...
why dont you buy a 200gig hd - 150bucks and a modchip? and install toxic bios, that way you can connect the hd to your pc and rip your games to it with some program, then connect it back to your ps2 and play!, but keep buying the games
well my ps2 in the past few weeks/months has begun to have trouble loading gt4 i guessed it may be cause they use a dual dvd full to the brim, as its the only game it takes its time on loading, but the slimline ps2's are cheaper then replacing lasers, as now they have stopped making the old style you cant get them, so you have to replace the whole unit shame really
chances are you have dust in your console. every broken ps2 ive come across that hasnt been dropkicked and smashed around can be fixed easily enough by cleaning. just cleaning the dvd drive and lens is not good enough, you have to clean the entire thing take it completely apart. there are all kinds of holes and openings in the dvd drive that when turned on suck in air and dirt from all manner of places. people say oh its the motor or the lense...most of the time the motor hasnt died it just needs to be uncloged, hair and dirt gets wraped around it. its possible the lense could need some minor fiddling but that only happens rarely, allmost allways in cases where people have droped or thrown their console. i have fixed lots of ps2's just by cleaning them, lots. allmost every single broken ps2 i have encountered just needed a good cleaning.
when mine messed up with reading disks I adjusted the fly wheels(the white cogs) next to the lens mechanism. It took some time playing with it but it's worked fine for over a year now.
Yeah dude the gear thing works, thats how I got my PS2 free. I'm not a fanboy, but I wouldn't buy a PS2, mostly cus its cooler to get it free, and I dunno....Devil may cry is about the only thing I really like on it, that and playing PS1 games. I usually play Xbox if I play newer games, cus as Cahaz said, most of the PS2 ports are on there, and there usually better. I figure, if you got both the systems, might as well get the best version.
Yeah I have read that dust gets in through the vent holes at the bottom of the ps2 alot If you take the case off and spray it out with a can or air then fiddle with the lense It should be good as new.
i dont suggest messing with the lense, try cleaning it first...its a pain taking apart and putting back together and you have to be carefull but if you do it right the console will last far longer. im telling you if youve never banged your ps2 around and treated it well, its the dust.
Yeah, if you do mess with the white gears on the laser assembly make sure you mark off where it starts to work, as a starting point, and slowly adjust it...and if it wasnt the gears in the first place its probably something else.
My PS2's starting to go a bit crappy too. Since I got GT4 it's taking time to recognise the disc (i.e. it starts up and goes to the system menu for a few seconds before starting the game, even though the game was already in the console before turning it on). And I think I heard the music in GT4 skip a few times as well - either that or I was going crazy. Is this probably dust too? Is this true? From my experience of my PS1 working better vertically, I always thoght vertical was better...
actually running a playstation 2 vertically is worse for your system. how much damage it will cause is moot, the average system will get clogged with dirt and die far before the added strain to the motor and spindle unit becomes an issue. the only reason why changing the position of the ps2 might have an effect is that the dust inside shifts or because of gravity less dust is likely to collect in key areas. at some point i plan on getting a black light and some small video cameras to track the dust as it travels through the console. its amazing, sony is brilliantly evil. i know from experience that ITS THE DUST ITS ALLWAYS THE DUST.
Mine was not the dust. Period. When I opened it up it looked pristine. I adjusted the gears and within a couple of hours I had it working and it hasn't stopped since.
