A short bit of my opinion of the system so far:

First off, the box it comes in is about a 6th the size of the box of my Battlefront RS box set (with the Vader PSP). It's a solid box, with no window showing the system (which I hated about the Vader package). It comes with a USB to PSP cord, a power cord, and the box to join the two making the whole power cord.

First problem. The problem with this... at least on my iMac, the PSP does NOT charge itself when plugged in like I heard was rumored. My iPhone charges this way just fine, as do many of my usb electronics.

Second bad thing to note regarding battery is that it's sent to you practically dead. If you want to do the mandatory system update just to download a game (which.. ya kinda need to on this system) you have to sit there for about a freakin hour before it's "charged enough to start the system update". Wow.

Third bad thing is that the triggers, while nicer than my 2000 PSP.. are a LOT more uncomfortable to reach. It feels like I'm trying to pull my fingers back, which is very unnatural, in order to hold them. Basically, the left and right edge of the screen are in the way. If that was cut out a bit, it would help tons.

Last bad thing would be that... well.. here I am.. typing this review.. not PLAYING THE GO. Why? Because I'm waiting for a game to download. It's very "PS3" in the sense that, even over Wifi, expect to let it sit for 25-30 min for one game to download. And just like the PS3, don't expect it to be over. Then you have INSTALL TIME! WHoooOOOO! I love my PS3.. it's my favorite system this generation, and I can live with it. But it's even more painful when it's working this way on a PORTABLE system. IE: You have places to be, shit to do.

Coming from an iPhone gamer, these download times suck.

    Now to the good things:

The slider is NICE. I had slider phones. I think they're junk. But whatever mechanic is in this thing is smooth as butter. It's actually really fun to pull up and down.. ya know.. when you're waiting for a game to download.

Second good thing would be that the buttons are fantastic. Besides the hard to reach triggers, these buttons are nice and snappy, but not like the DS's which feel almost cheap and clicky. These have a "click" per say, but are soft enough to feel natural.

Third, for all the nay sayers... the joystick placement is actually a lot more comfortable. As in, I actually want to use it! Wow! It's smaller though, but the level of accuracy is higher, which is appreciated.

Fourth. I have the white PSP Go and it's a thing of beauty. Coming from the Vader 2000 PSP, this paint job is a lot nicer and has a non-girly sparkle in the paint which makes it look like a nice car paint job. It's classy all the way around, and it feels "next gen" a lot more than the typical PSP updates do.

Fifth is the screen and size of the unit. It's great, clear, and I can't tell it's smaller. Because of the layout, the PSP is the same size, if not smaller for the rounded corners as my iPhone. Not too shabby. Also it's a LOT thinner, and feels like a true upgrade.

Last but not least, while the system doesn't allow you to play your UMD games, you can play with your included Rock Band Unplugged full game download! That and you have a demo that's already loaded on the PSP Go, which is Patapon 2. Not too bad.

All in all I'm very giddy. It's a wonderfully built system. But coming from being an iPhone gamer, the online bit (buying, searching, installing...ect) is rather terrible. It's an odd feeling. I'm SO excited but at the same time I'm literally pissed off because I've had this since 5 pm and I have yet to play more than an hour of a game. Thanks Sony.

I'm a little confused as to who this is marketed at too. Downloading games, and for that matter even setting up the Wifi and system updates is terribly confusing at times even for me. It needs a refresh to be as fast as the App Store or Live and to be a bit more user friendly. If this is trying to be marketed to "older people who don't want to carry UMDs around" than it should play a bit more to the non-tech savvy.

All in all, I'd recommend it if you don't mind losing major bucks on selling your UMD library. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better than I thought. I can forgive the lack of a UMD--> digital trade in, but PSN store on the PSP Go is painful. Basically, if you want a game, don't expect to play it when you want to. If you already have the games you want downloaded, it's a wonderful system.

It seems to be marketed directly to the iphone/ipod casual gamers with its sidekick like design. They really should have a quick and easy way to access the store, since with the iphone all you need is an internet connection, but theres still the need to create the itunes account if you want to buy anything.

I think the psn store is laid out better then the app store IMHO, then again the app store has an immense amount of programs to catalog.

Have fun with the new system!

I tried it out at the sony store and while it looks nice and the size is good, I am not really impressed. I feel the 16gb will fill up pretty fast and I do not like how they force you to now use micro memory stick if you want extend your memory instead of just using your current mem stick duo.

Honestly this would of been a great improvement if it would of been a direct follow up instead of the 3rd version of psp. With the way the psp is setup I do not know how they will capture the iphone crowd.

A good example of style over substance. Looks great, etc, but existing PSP users have a lot of UMD games, which they can't use on the new unit, or have to "buy the game again" on download. That sucks.

The PSP Go reeks of trying to salvage a failed system through rebranding. Especially since UMD turned out to be such a dismal flop, and now they've practically dumped it. At least Sony can probably get some profits through sales of new hardware before the inevitable wave of pirating hits..
