I'm curious to see Kameo turned on my 360 debug :)

Wow, that looks absolutely sterile compared to the 360 version.
All those special effects and normal mapping really did add to the cinematic feel of the game. Glad they opted for a 360 release for it.

Thanks for the pics, Xbox 360 debug discs, and very nice builds of Xbox games.

I've gotten quite a few PMs asking me about the Halo builds and what's different from the retail release. Please don't PM me about that at this point. Before I left, I started to compare the silver Halo disc to the retail game. I've alredy found a few minor differences but nothing I'm going to say at this point. When I have more (and extra time for that matter), I'll post some here for those that were interested. Thanks.

And BTW, no, I am not selling them [IMG].

I have made quite an interesting discovery today. I used a hex editor to look at the XBEs (xbox executables) from both of my debug builds and found out that first, the white disc is actually an older build than the silver disc. The white one is dated at October ?? 2001 (like another interesting comparison that I will state below) while the silver disc is dated at January ?? 2002 (post release?). This dismissed my assumption that the white disc was closer to a retail build save for the debug encoding.

Secondly, when comparing the build number of the white disc to the xbe of the build that oldengineer made famous here, I noticed that it was the exact same thing minus the 2 extra XBEs for camera angles that also have the same build number. The default.xbe from the white disc matches EXACTLY the default XBE from the build in that thread.

I will not divulge the build numbers themselves for obvious reasons.

You say the silver disc is newer than the white disc? Is the build number larger on the silver one?

Yep, silver disc is newer and post-retail (most likely a review copy). It has a date and build number larger than the white one. Although there is slight confusion. The build number itself is comprised of four groups of numbers but with the last group most likely indicating the absolute build number.

If you have the build I'm thinking of, it's not really two levels, rather it is a single level with two start points. One at the beginning of the level, the other smack dab in the middle.

    Doesn't exist.

Some of you need to start reading the "Unreleased Games Discussion" forum. ;)

Lookie what Yakumo posted up over two months ago...

Why settle for photos when you can have video?

When comparing build dates, one must always remember that retail dates for North America and retail dates for the rest of the world are not always the same. Just because an XBE is dated post-retail for you doesn't mean it is post-retail for another territory. ;)

That's exactly what it is. The first level is the complete Thorn's Castle level and the second is a melee level that takes place in a section of Thorn's Castle.

I won't settle for a video when I can play it [IMG].
(btw, i'm not getting anything from that ftp)

Yes, I did notice that the build directory for that particular included PAL in the path which most likely means that it's a version of a PAL release. I didn't have the XBE from a PAL version of Halo so I couldn't really tell for sure.

    Different Secondary Attack

hl718 pointed something out to me that I never noticed before. Those that have played the 360 version of Kameo know that Chilla's secondary attack is the grab where he can pile up enemies on his back to throw afterwards. Turns out that this was not originally supposed to be. In this particular build of Kameo on the Xbox, Chilla has a completely different secondary attack. Instead of the grab, he shoots a different type of spike that explodes after a few seconds. You throw them at enemies, they stick in them and explode later on to produce damage. I've taken a short video to demonstrate. It won't be there forever so look at it while it's there. Someone could upload it to the rare media FTP if they wish to do so. You may also notice several things that are different from the final version but I'll leave that to you. Many things were added in the 360 version and several enemies not seen in that video have also changed slightly or greatly.

awesome, thanks for the pics and video :D
it's amazing what a difference there is graphicly between the xbox and xbox360 version (atleast if I compare these pics with the pics I've seen of Kameo on the net.. havn't actually tested the 360 yet and only seen it once in a store ;) )
