So thanks to phonedork's video on youtube I had become interested in buying the components necessary to get my sega genesis displaying true Y-Pb-Pr video. One thing that I really didn't like, was his way of getting audio. He bought another adapter just to be able to get audio from the unit. So i researched around google and this forum and found that some people auction mode their scart to component adapters to get audio. Sadly these mods look kinda ugly in my opinion with cable sticking out from the side and who knows one day it my get pulled, and wind up pulling on the scart teeth from inside the adapter and messing up your unit. So, I got my CVS-287 (the adapter) and noticed there is a pretty big space inside so I decided to instead add RCA jacks on it. So i got to drilling. Unfortunately my dremmel was having problems holding the bits and that's why it got scratched. Soldering was a breeze the contacts are nice and big and are basically in a row. Pin 2 is Right Audio Red, Pin 4 is Audio Ground, Pin 6 is Audio Left (white) Then I mounted the audio jacks. These were probably not the best choice as I had to glue them to the cover. There better choices out there. It looks clean at least once is mounted. And that is it, you get a nice clean look out of it. No danger of pulling wires and you can buy one of those component plus audio cables and just connect them all together without the need for 3.5mm to RCA wires etc. So this was my little project for now. Tell me what you all think and ask me any questions or tell me what I could've done better.
nice post, I was thinking of doing the same rather than plugging in an extra passthrough to break out the audio
lol did the same just the other night to mine! I did opt for the cable poking out the end next to the SCART socket but I found some rubber boot/grommets laying around and used them to provide some mechanical protection. Yes very easy to do! Another option I considered was to use a 3.5mm stereo socket.
No... You just get the systems to run with the absolute best video quality. If you're TV just can't handle interlace signals then you should consider buying an old school line doubler/ scaler. That's what I did and aside from a little issue I am having with a cheap SNES scart cable I bought, the games look absolutely awesome.
