So I was playing Counter-Strike 1.6 online at the map de_dust this night when our team (Counter-Terrorists) lost a round. So a few seconds after the new round started, one of the players on our team instructs us all via his microphone to "Rush the Bombsite." I decide to "play" a little and rush to the first arch leading outside of the CT spawn. When I reached that point, I crouched so that the rest of my team could not rush like they wanted (yeah, I couldn't help being an arse). So my teammates start shooting at me, and before I know it I was kicked and permanently banned from the server.

Well... I dunno what to say... It's a server I play on a regular basis; maybe I deserved the ban... :crying:

So you interfered with your own team?

A boot maybe, but not a ban.

lol, I hear HORROR stories all the time about how awesome players "show off" their skills and get banned constantly in CS and Battlefield servers.

I think someone in Battlefield got banned for killing everyone with the knife (legitimately) and no one could believe it.

I also heard someone got banned TWICE for reaching #1 on a server on MGS3 Subsistence.

It just goes to show how childish people act online sometimes.

The sad thing is that most of the admins are, there's no better word, idiots, who have somehow paid $200 USD for an admin spot. What a shame. :-(

Well, I'm pretty much known to do random team TK's. I was waiting for the day I would finally get banned, and here it is...

quite a mediocre reason , no?

You should have gone all out, like throw all your grenades down on teamspawn.

Thats amatuer. The shit I would do will drive people insane and scream into their microphones. The admin is prolly a 12 year old power-monger who gets off by banning people for shooting at him.

I would've thrown flash bangs and smoke grenades at snipers and those who rush. I'd also block doors, too and throw the bomb in an inconvenient place where other people can't get it and the team loses if they can't kill off the CT.

    I'd quickly log-off and rejoin as ~!myg0t!~SamSoN.

    Very fun times in CS..

No offense, but anyone who TK's in CS should be banned. You want to screw around and kill people on your side? Go shoot Barney in Half-life. It's fun! And, more to the point, it doesn't involve messing someone else's game up.

There's a reason I don't play online games: there are too many people who screw around and don't play the game properly. Especially if it's a team-oriented game, I want my team members to be respectful and play the damn game. I don't think it's much to ask. The fact that I have to deal with pre-pubescent teenagers detailing sexual encounters with my mother while shooting me in the head (when we're on the same team) just wears me out.

There really is no excuse for the grief. It ruins what could otherwise be quite fun.

If it makes you happy then whatever, but be aware that you're probably ruining other people's games, which is pretty selfish and unnecessary. I don't know exactly what you're referring to, so I'm taking a guess, but put it this way: if you're driving people mad, maybe you should stop. It's kind of immature.

I know it is, but I only do it when the game gets immature and the teams start to suck and there is no teamwork, so I just be an ass and get people to work together to stop me. They know me, so they don't ban me. Then we end up working together. I'm actually a pretty darn good CS: S player, well in the server I frequently played and they got the idea that I only do stuff like that when teams start slack off.

It's kind of different if you know the people you're playing against (in real life, I mean). I think the main "attraction" of being a dick in an online game is that you know the people you're fucking with can't get you back in real life. That all changes when it's people you're going to meet up with in the next week. Case in point: the game servers I played on at my uni are some of the best networked games I ever experienced. The game society all know each other and if anyone messes around, they'll get pulled up on it in the pub.

I guess my point is, you wouldn't screw someone over if you knew you might meet them in the supermarket later. I don't see why that irritation becomes different (and ok) when that person is actually in a different country, but for some people it does, and that's a shame. It's the main reason I won't buy a 360: the emphasis is online play, and most people playing those games aren't worth playing with. Online gaming has such potential to be fun but in my experience I just come away frustrated. When I play Quake I want to play Quake, not have my sexual preference debated.

I remember seeing a post somewhere that talked about how it might be an idea to ask gamers to choose between a "smacktalk server" where anything goes, and a "serious server" where anyone swearing, insulting other players, being an ass etc gets perma-banned the first time they obviously act out of line. I'd be interested to see if that worked.

I don't randomly (or used to) TK my own teammates. It was mostly just the "main shit-talkers" who I think deserved it (scores with 2:15 & worse). Don't worry, I don't ruin others' games! ;-)
