That's a crazy amount of people everyday. Not sure which station they were talking about.

Nice pics there. What phone do you have? Though I doubt they sell it outside Japan anyway. I got the cheapest piece of phone I could get - a Sony Ericsson T230 for 80 Euro - it's a crock of shit, and if I want to take pictures I need to buy a camera attatchment!

Shimonoseki looks like a calm and peaceful place (clean too) - the same could not be said for smelly Limerick (it does smell by the way - stupid stinky river). The newer campus villages (the ones made in the last decade) in UL use those funky keycards too, but never seen them in normal-person houses before!

The beer machines switch off at 11pm. no idea what time they switch on though. If you want a beer after 11pm you only need to walk around the corner to 7 eleven.

Ah, that's not my mail box but my door bell with intercom. You'll notice it's made by panasonic if you look close enough. Anyway I'm British.

same here when I first came 7 years ago. Well, that's a bit of a lie. I did study a little before coming over but not much. To be honest you could try to come over as a student and study japanese in Japan. I think that's what GaijinPunch did.

Yep. I went for a study abroad in Shizuoka. Much more domestic...apparently like Shimonoseki if those pictures are a good sample of it. I then did the "I'll go for two years" thing in 1998, and didn't leave until 2004. :/ The way it's looking, I will eventually head back, but not for a while.

50 kph is about 31 mph and 60 kph is roughly 37 mph. People say I'm crazy when I drive fast in my neighborhood. My roads are like the freeway compared to yours. It must be interesting when two cars going the opposite direction meet in the middle.

MAN! Those are some nice pics for just a cell phone! Man, that must be a pretty high tech cell phone! Anyways, I would even loooooooooooove to go to Japan, but I wouldn't know anyone there.

I would prefer to go places where I know someone I know is there. That would be in every continent now except South America & Australia. I would really wanna try a foreign exchange program when I go to college. For now, I might visit relatives in China.

Man, that place really looks peaceful, how is life over there?

The same quality as a 2mega pixel digital camera plus it has a x2 zoom :) The highest resolution is 1224 x 1632 I normally use 960 x 1280 so that I can save more pictures. It also has 768 x 1024 and 480 x 640 resolutions as well as some shitty ones for sending pictures to old telephones. The video camera option however runs at 240 x 320 at 15fps

why do none of the bikes in the pic have locks? if i parked my bike with no lock it would be jacked in about 10 minutes.

Bikes do get stolen at an alarming rate in Japan. It's just that people don't really care. Most bikes are el cheapo models and get treated like disposable umbrellas here.

And yes, that does mean that I sometimes find mangled bikes abandoned on the side of the street or in thickets.

The bikes do have locks on the back wheels. It's just that you can't see them. I lock my bike since I've had 3 stolen by fucking school kids from the Train Station in the last 5 years. I now have a nice-ish 10'000 yen bike all in black :)

10,000 yen is actually quite cheap for a bicycle compared to Holland!

El Cheapo bikes here cost about 6000 to 7000 yen. 10'000 is probably the cheap end of the half decent bikes p

    Bikes.............I HATE BIKES!!!

Honestly, the idea of balancing in 2 wheels with a bounch of ppl running at my sides doesnt comply with my standart for transportation

I`ll rather buy a segway :smt023 (if they were far cheaper :()

I'm suprised the segway hasn't caught on big in Japan myself. Seems like something that the Japanese would be instantly attracted to. Maybe once a Hello Kitty model comes out sales will pick up.

Maybe cuz is a yank invention ;)

Plus, is too expensive, even for the japanese. The batteries dont last too long either, about 20 miles and you`r out (and the thing is too damn heavy to carry, yet too expensive to park). They could accomodate bigger batteries on the front and the sides, instead of those bags

Anyways, japanese already have a segway: the PMP2. It exactly like the segway, just that dirt cheap (its goin to be at 1100$) an even worse milleage (11) and no handle-bar.

Yeah but usually fat arses that cant even walk are more than 130KG (300 pounds?) and the limit in the segway is 120Kg :p

Anyways, apparently they couldnt commercialize it due to restrictions in japans sidewalks

Japan has a really odd rule about the pavement (Sidewalk) if there is one that is :p You must ride your bike on it if one is present and not on the road otherwise you could find yourself getting a fine. I've never actually seen anyone get done though. You can't drink beer then ride your bike either. This is something I never knew until a year ago. I'd been riding my bike while drinking beer on a hot day many times :D OH, and one more mone :p I hate the stupid arses who don't use the light on their bike !! Then they complain if you almost knock them over or something.
