...and no, I'm not going to see my doctor, so let's get that one out of the way right now! OK, so I was playing Zelda last night. I shut down the console with the remote, so the orange light was on... i.e. my machine is in standby. OK, so it is off, right? WRONG! This evening, I come home. I'm about to leave my room, when I notice my Wii is glowing! I'm thinking this to be odd, as the light only flashes briefly when you turn it on! I phone my friend, who said his did the same last night, and he hasn't played it in a couple of days! (video will be here soon - waiting on Youtube!) OK, so I'm starting to worry that its some kind of takeover by Nintendo - something like the earpieces in Dr. Who, or the compacts in On Her Majesty's Secret Service!!!! The Wiis are all linked to a central hub, and the switch has been flicked! Actually, it would appear to be not too far from the truth! .... We both turned our machines on, and tried the News Channel. As always, it said you need an update to use it, and the service isn't available. We both clicked update... and it downloaded an update! After this, we noticed the weather channel was available. Oh, and I realised after that I had a message... from Nintendo, announcing just this! So, is it a feature that when you have a new message, it glows? Or is it when there is an update available? This leads me to the somewhat sinister hidden feature in the Wii. Admittedly, I haven't read the manual thoroughly, it may be in there (probably is).... My net was running very slow the other evening, so I thought I'd check that noone had hacked my wireless! To my astonishment, there WAS an unknown computer, with no name! I turned on my 360, refreshed the router, and it reported ANOTHER unnamed device. OK, so games consoles appear unnamed. I unplugged the Wii and turned off the 360, but the mystery device remained. I turned the Wii on, went online, refreshed the router, and there were no extra devices. So it appears to stay registered with my router somehow! My friend assures me this option can be turned off, but it is quite scary that, if you don't read up on it, you can assume that the console is off and offline, when in fact, that is far from the case. Oh, as for the weather channel... how random are those towns they chose???!? I assume they are main weather stations, but they aren't alphabetical, and there's no logical sort order to the list! On another note, we had Wii all over the shop floor today! This was batch two... AND batch 3, I think. Either way, they are all reserved. For those hoping for a late batch in time for Christmas, forget it. Nintendo's UK distributor are themselves receiving the next batch on Friday.. and they won't be shipping out before Christmas. They should hit the shelves for New Year.
i like to keep a message waiting just so it stays blue,i think it looks fancy that way.the first time a friend sent me a message and it did that iw as so excited.
yeah. the glowing sure is a wii feature. you got it when you updated the first time (well that's when I got it anyway). it has to do with the WiiConnect24 and if you don't like it just turn it off under the Wii settings. another option is to just press and hold the power button on the wii until the system is powerd down and the power lamp should now be red instead = not using WiiConnect24 (or standby connection or what ever it's called). you can also under the WiiConnect24 settings change the behavior of how the slot will glow (bright, dim, off).
Sinister? Eh, not in the least. Rather this is how your wireless router is *supposed* to work, espically if you have it acting as a DHCP server. As for the Wii's connection behaviour? Also, very well documented. In other words, RTFM. -hl718
LOL, I know, I just got bored hehe! And impatient! Nah, my router isn't set to remember MAC addresses properly... this is a list of ATTACHED devices. When I turn the 360 off, it disappears from the list. The Wii stays even with the power cord removed! I work in a games shop, and we sell second hand consoles. We WILL get Wiis in second hand sooner or later. And they WILL often be unboxed with no instructions. How are those poor people to know about the wireless thing?
Its also a selling point that the Wii can be online 24/7 with almost no energie needed. When I had an interview with Eguchi (animal crossing) He also told me that they are going to do cool things with it
