is there a way to output a rgb scart signal on a ntsc console? Modding either a cable or console?

What happens when you plug your NTSC console using SCART on your TV?

Try hooking it first without changing anything and if the results aren't satisfying, try to change the video region of your console to PAL. There are multiple tools that does this, like Enigmah Video Mode switcher disc.

setting it to pal gives me a clean rgb picture. Setting it to NTSC gives me a red filter, suggesting the R pin is amped up too much (there's indeed a capacitor on it), so I'm gonna try desoldering that and seeing if it fixes the red filter. I'm not interested in Pal, I need NTSC.

Ok so I modded the cable, now I've got RGB Scart on a NTSC consoles. They said NTSC Xboxes didn't do RGB, but they were wrong.

Kewl. Just removing the capacitor fixed the issue? Did you have to remove any components from the G and B lines too?

Only removed Red and Green capacitors. See below for what the cable looked like BEFORE the mod. Compare your cable accordingly.

    Thank you :)

The Wii outputs an all red and black screen when set to NTSC, and you're using a RGB cable. I wonder if that could be fixed too?

It could be that ntsc wii outputs component and your tv can't handle the signal.

Actually I did this recently - it's possible. Wire up the audio and RGB lines, then:
-solder pins 17,18 and 19 on the Xbox end (on the cable more exactly, you have to open the thing up and get rid of the shield covering the connector) then with those 3 pins soldered, solder pin 18 from the SCART connector to the 3 pins (just make a big dab of solder, bridge those 3 pins together and then solder the wire, that's what I did)
-connect pin 16 from SCART to a 180 ohm resistor then using a wire connect the other end of the resistor to pin 13 on the Xbox cable
-connect pin 20 from SCART to pin 24 on Xbox cable - I assume this is for sync.

I did this with 95% success.

I say this because on my TV,I still get a cyan-ish tint on the TV,and as my case with PS1/2 RGB cable, the signal still overlaps over my channel. If more details needed,I can link the YT video of the problem (although tested on PS1 and 2,but this happens on the Xbox as well.). Possible cause may be because I used a 220 ohm resistor? And another bizzare thing -as opposed to the Playstation consoles,I get the following effect: teletext off will still provide some RGB-ish signal (crisp image but brighter image like composite,I can confirm this because my Xbox was set to NTSC when doing this) but turning it on will result in the same image, but TWICE as crisp, and with the usual RGB scanlines,as if the signal was scaled or something). It may be possible that yours may have a 100% result, with no problems arising (that happen on my TV.)

If you want the diagram, here's a picture of it.

As for what exactly my TV does, here are some links to YT.

    Part 1:
    Part 2:

This applies to the Xbox cable as well, even though I did most of the stuff correctly. (aside from using a 220 ohm resistor instead of 180)

Where is a good guide to my modded xbox. I bought a original xbox with a mod chip in it. I have soft modded them before but never had a chipped one though. So where can I find out more info? PS it has a splash scren that says Xecuter roxs my box and some dip switchs on the front that says bank select 1 thru 4 and the fifth switch says Flash protect. It has tons of games and a huge hard drive and I got it at the Goodwill with the 2 wireless controllers for $12

Assuming I can get H and V sync internally, would using the correct mode select combination give rgb regardless of which bios is in use?

Yes but the BIOS sets what mode to put the video encoder in. In regular hacked and stock BIOSes, there is no way to set any video encoder to output RGB. That's why you need one of those modified hacked BIOSes to output VGA. It basically replace the video encoder configuration registers values for the YPbPr (Component) presets with values to actually configure the video encoder to output VGA. Xbox thinks it's outputting component when in fact video encoders is set to transcode GPU raw data into VGA.

Ok, thanks for clearing it up, perhaps I'll reflash the bios, or just go for an external converter solution.

Could I just get one of those cheap aladdin xt mod chips and flash the vga bios to that to have a dual bios setup?
