I search information about this mysterious Pink GD-Rom. I buy this few years ago. The seller worked for Sega. Have you see Pink GD-ROM before ? Whats is it ? Intern network TEST ? Pirate games ? Promo games ? A silver ? ..... Particularity of the games : -50 hz -you don't need serial and access key -no need a boot to play Version 2.000 Date : 2000/12/14 before the PSO GD-R I have. I have the dump. Cheers Laurent
It's definitely a legit disc, the manufacturing numbers match the style of Emi CD in Uden, the Netherlands, which was the factory which pressed PAL Dreamcast discs.
Providing the date on the disc isn't just a burn date, that prototype is a month before the final PAL/US version (and a month before the other prototype you released). So this must be the "Preview" equivalent to that "Review". Final build JP Dec 6, 2000 EU Jan 20, 2001 US Jan 20, 2001 Release date JP Dec 21, 2000 US Jan 29, 2001 EU Feb 23, 2001 I've never seen a pink Dreamcast disc like that before. I do know that they manufactured the PAL GD-ROMs in Holland.
Its crazy, its my opinion, for me its not a prototype. You don't need disk system 2 or dev kit to read this games. Why you don't need serial and access key ? hihihih i want to know what is exactly. You don't have Extra (picturses ) I forget this You know for Phantasy star online Master White label ?
I've seen the white label before, but I don't know if it differs from the retail. White labels are usually exactly the same as the final retail versions unless specified. I know that version in particular needed a serial/access key to play. If your copy can run without a dev kit or system 2 disk, and doesn't require a serial/access key for online, maybe the disc was meant as a store demo? I think there are some discs floating around that were used in certain GAME stores in Europe. Maybe this could be one? Do you know if the Online Mode is still available? Is the "Website" option on the title screen still available too? It's definitely a legit proto regardless, hehe.
Yes you have the website in the main title. You can choice offline and online. Its was I thinking when I found this games, a demo like a white label. I make tonight a release of this build and maybe you can help me to found more information
Thanks for the upload! The date is 12/14/2000, so only a few days after the JP final. There aren't a lot of aesthetic changes since I guess they wanted to have consistency between every region, but there are a few localization differences between this prototype and the final PAL/NTSC build. Most of the differences are in the quests. I noticed the original Japanese release had a lot of the international quest files included. There are still quite a number of differences between the files included in the original Japanese release and this prototype, even though they were built a week a part from each other.
Any chance of someone making some screenshots comparisons between this pink disc and the retail PAL/NTSC version?
Hi, this is Maddog from Dumpcast. I ran into this thread and decided to make an account. Although I can't tell you exactly what this GD-ROM is, there are some things and a theory I can contribute to the discussion: 1) It's totally legit as far as I can tell. Apart from the ringcode being the same type as the usual ringcodes from PAL GD-ROMs, Sega appears to have been using a system where part of the ringcode indicates specific GD-ROM content/mastering. It's the xxxxSS part, which in your case is 0430SS. I have made catalogs with all numbers I know from PAL and JP discs. There are many gaps in my catalogs as I don't know/have all discs released. Your 0430SS fills nicely one of those. The retail PSO is 0319SS and the retail PSO v2 is 0495SS. 2) The PAL White Label "Phantasy Star Online Master" has been dumped and is exactly the same as the retail: http://dcemulation.org/dumpcast/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1619 3) Your ringcode is 952-0134-0430SS. There are several white labels that have 952-XXXX ringcodes, some identical in content to retail versions and others slightly different/earlier. The closest known to your disc is Fighting Vipers 2 Beta White Label, with ringcode 952-0135-0431SS. Which in my books almost certainly indicates that they were created at a similar time frame (FV2 Beta has a date of 26/12/00 on the header and is slightly earlier than the retail). 0432SS is again an unknown. 0429SS is retail Project Justice. My theory: It appears that Sega decided to print regular non-final code GD-ROMs for 2 games (or 3, if the unknown 432 is something similar) around Xmas 2000. Most likely for same purpose as the other White Labels. But for some reason the Phantasy Star you have (and maybe also the missing 0432...) did not receive wide distribution. Possibly scrapped and replaced with the more advanced/final code Phantasy Star Online Master, which received wider printing as a regular White Label. Perhaps if this disc had come out as a standard White Label, it would have been marked "Phantasy Star Online Beta". Hope all these mumblings make sense... I wish I had ringcode information for all known White Labels, but alas I don't.
Thanks for you help Maddog. I haven't lost the mail of the seller. New information. "I think it was for public relations use. so print departement been funny and made them in pink label, which as far I remember was of no specific use. Just different! "
2017 is a goldmine for us Dreamcast enthousiasts. Thanks again for sharing @Laurent. This definitely is a unique item, never seen anything like it before!
