So I picked up an N-Gage QD, and it has the white screen of death. I know it's a memory overflow issue, but I don't know how to fix it besides the factory reset code, which I couldn't get to work. Worst part is, all the stuff I see online says to send it to Nokia, who doesn't even service the thing anymore. Any help?
Try taking out any MMC that might still be in there. Boot. If it works now, reformat the card before putting it back.
How do I do that? the QD doesn't have a USB plug in it at all. Really? Because their site doesn't even list the N Gage as having existed (and they have phones from the 90s on there).
Mind pointing us in the direction of a tutorial for reflashing with a simple cable? I'm interested too since I kinda skipped the whole J2ME generation of phones back then, and when I finally started toying around with them most of the (long dead) communities I found focused on some really expensive flashing hardware (Prodigy and whatnot), with cheap cables seemingly being useful only for for unbranding etc.
the flashing is done from the contacts located under the battery. Officially you connect a battery jig instead of a standard battery that passes through the system, allowing setting service modes, diagnostics modes (voltage controlled yay!) and actually updating the software. on the pc side, you need the nokia service tool "phoenix" and a suitable firmware. (these phones cannot be downgraded with phoenix, you need some heavier equipment for rewriting the certificates. i wont go into details on that.) the firmware files should be relatively easy to obtain with a little googling, and i believe same applies to phoenix. Official nokia firmware repo is now closed though, so only way to access that is using a nokia service personell account. (a.k.a. the firmware download function of phoenix doesnt work anymore.) when flashing, please note that while it sometimes works to cold flash a phone without any power input present, it's not recommented as it has a chance to permanently f0rk the bootloader and effectively brick the phone. (it gets stuck on a state where flashing software becomes incapable of resending the bootloader) as for building the cable, i have the official ones so, cant help with that. on a side note, the official flashing cable is: battery jig -> RJ-45 -> flash prommer -> RS-232 not just a standard rs-232 ...then again, it's not like the cracked flasher even needs verification hardware.
