I know what you're thinking, the name N-Joypad makes it sound like one of the million nes-in-a-n64-pad famiclones. Im glad to say its alot more interesting than that. You can't see it on these shitty pics but the only reason I bought this was the fact it says "56 GAMES IN 3 COMPACT DISCS" on the front of the box. When I first saw it I had to look again... optical media and a famiclone?! A cd driven console for under £10? I didnt see one of these in real life untill after I bought it (as I got it from argos of all places) and it turns out I was quite naive in trusting UK trading standards law. I got home and opened the box and saw this. No power pack and the console itself was lighter than its joypads, turns out that it requires 4 AA batteries to run and the "56 GAMES IN 3 COMPACT DISCS" are simply plastic discs that press a button under the CD lid. Heh. On the left a N-Joypad "COMPACT DISC", on the right a real CD. All this aside the real point of interest is this things controllers. They fit perfectly into a Gamecube!
Awesome find! I take it there is absolutely no compatibility between the controllers and the Gamecube (aside from fitting in the socket)?
There is no compatibility with the controllers which is a shame. Here are some more shots including Need For Speed! Some tetris clone with bad music Disk 1 Disk 2 Disk 3 NEED FOR SPEED! What a let down :crying: also a strange question... what constitutes a famiclone? This one looks to have a mix of hacked up roms and original games but has no way of playing games other than the ones built right in. So what defines a famiclone or console? And what are the new licensed plug-in-your-tv-and-play games called? You know the ones, pac-man in a joystick things.
Nice find, like the case desgin. What constitues a famiclone? Well I'd say it's any unlicensed system that emulates or is compatible with the famicom (thereby eliminating licensed compatible systems, like the Sharp TVs or Famicom Disk system.) So yes, the Powerjoy-clone-in-a-controller things, handhelds like Game Axe or GTA, and the above system all classify as famiclones. As for the joystick games like the Namco thing you mentioned, I don't think there's an official "name" for them, but on my site I've been calling them "TV Games."
An famiclone that runs fake cd-roms? The most funny famiclone that I ever seen, serious, and I'm from Brazil, the king of these crap clones:drool:
There are many CD-based famiclones, by the way. They're often bundled in with VCD/DVD players, with some number like "256 TV Game" and no cart port (all ROMs come on a disc). Unusual to see fake CDs though.
