I have one and I really like it. I've been playing Sin and Punishment with it lately. It definitely improves the experience of a lot of games. Someone mentioned Wave Race 64; that game controls a lot better with the Horipad Mini 64. My favorite version of that game is the Japanese rumble support version.
I'd have to assume the final product will be similar to their NES pad, which is of pretty decent quality.
Finally a video review of the controller by RGT85. Expected to ship out Mid-February 2018. There's no news on whether this will be available in Canadian Markets is there? (i'd rather not pay a premium when it comes to shipping), anyone know of any Canadian retailers (bestbuy, etc) that would be selling this?
Heeeee I still have one of these (and I recall Nintendo Official Magazine doled out Makopads as prizes every month), my Superpad still functions fine after my sister threw it at the wall, tough as granite!
Transfer pak is not working on the ones about to ship to backers. So if I like the controller enough, then I will have to buy another one because transfer pak doesn’t work even though they said that it worked already.
I saw that, luckily they say Controller Paks and Rumble Paks work fine, the only game I have that uses those is Pokemon Stadium anyway.
That controller looks great! thinking about it now, the N64 controller was never a comfortable controller back when i was a kid and had a N64 in the house, the controller was always awkward and weird to handle, much to say the left side of the controller was seldom held or used in majority of the games played on the system; at least for myself and sister. ergonomics and video game playing are very important, many reasons why i enjoyed much of the design and shape of Sega's controllers, they just felt right, and this belief carried on to the xbox/360/one.
Hori Mini pad was/is great esepcially for people with "smaller" hand although big hand can use no problem. the only issue would be it cost at least 4000-5000 yen a piece and even more so on eVay so me think this pad even with its short coming and issue is still a worthwhile investiment if you play N64 regularily. When I get mine I will report back how it goes...
Still it kinda sucks that they would release it with bugs and just be like "it's good enough". Can't say I'm happy about the 4 I reserved possibly being duds.
I received mine yesterday. This thing is amazing. It is way better than any of my other controllers. I even have joystick replacement that is using micro's version 3 board. I love how perfect the thumbstick and button layout are(no gaps and no fast acceleration). The reason the transfer pack doesn't work, is because the throat of the memory card slot isn't wide enough. Keep in mind it perfectly works with rumble packs and memory cards with no death grip tightness(transfer pack is just too wide). Don't blame them too harshly since redesigning the plastic shell would be very expensive.
Interesting read, I'm anxiously awaiting my two controllers. Could you please also post a picture with the Retro Fighters controller also, for comparison?
I sold the green gamecube modded controller a while ago and the other controllers are put away, but here is my red gamecube modded controller next to the retro fighters controller. I also including my username written on a piece of paper.
Thanks buddy, can't wait to try mine out for some Mario Kart (which is the reason I splurged for two immediately).
Pretty sure Mario Tennis, Golf and Perfect Dark also made use of it, though not to the same extent as Pokemon Stadium (and it's sequel)
