I bought a scart rgb for snes from a website, I thought of trying it on my n64 and gc but I got only sound.

so I was wondering if there is a way to get rgb scart out of them? both are ntsc uc consoles..

    thanks in advance

NTSC-J/NTSC-U GCs require one of the GCVideo mods that support analog RGB output while the N64 requires the N64RGB mod.

If you have a DOL-001 GC (has digital AV port), you can install citrus3000psi's GCDual board which provides 480p+ compatible YPbPr component, RGB (RGBS, RGBHV, and RGsB selectable in the OSD), and true digital to digital HDMI. He sells them on his website for $120 when they are in stock. You can also get them from Game-Tech. Be warned: this mod is not for beginners. It is rather difficult despite looking simple.

The N64 has a few options. If you have a NUS-CPU-04 motherboard or earlier, the RGB mod is easier to install using the same amp mod for the SNES Jr. If you have a NUS-CPU-05, you'll need the more difficult mods (but have more features). There's the N64RGB mod from Tim Worthington of NESRGB fame which has RGBS and deblur, Borti's version of the N64RGB mod, and Borti's N64RGB Advanced mod which features a heck of a lot of things like an OSD, deblur, line doubling 240p to 480p, 480i deinterlacing to 480p, optional RGBHV, RGsB, and YPbPr outputs.

thanks alot for the excellent reply, Iam not a beginner at all in electronics and mods its my hobby, just was wondering if there DIY mods not ready made chips to install like the hdmi out of n64 and gc .. i will go through your reply thoroughly and find the best for my consoles.

btw, was just wondering if any one/company etc was able to clone the original gc component cable mainly that it has a little board in it? as you its prices are crazy..

and numbers speaking, don't component output and rgb scart give the same resolution? I mean is there a difference as people refer to scart rgb as better picture..

RGB is more of a purist signal. Most consoles output digital RGB, and all TV panels will only accept RGB. So transcoding to YPbPr doesn't make much sense. However, the Gamecube/Wii GPU outputs YCbCr nativity. So it doesn't really matter in this case, as the TV will encode back to RGB when it receives a YPbPr signal.

A lot of people prefer RGB as its just convenient in their setup etc.

In our region tvs where rarely equipped with scart in, I even remember that Av to scart adapte which used to come with ps1 consoles were distributed for free here as no one uses them, but component was more common..

I will try to find a pal gc as it outputs rgb as I read..

    thanks alot

Just to clarify when I say "TV panels will only accept RGB" I'm not talking about scart/av/component connections.

Your best option is an NTSC gamecube with official component or my cough cough GCDual. :)

Pal gamecubes are fine, but RGB does not work in 480p mode.

I second citrus's GCDual board. $120 and it gives you YPbPr, RGB, and HDMI. It also supports 480p just like the official component cable.

if it doesn't give 480p then I would just stay with my NTSC gc and see what I get for it.. thanks for all the info
