Got another VHS digitized that shows some interesting footage of beta content and the unreleased Kirby Air Ride on N64. Not sure if this has ever been uploaded since it's pretty obscure. This sure as hell would have got me hyped back in the day.
Very cool video indeed!!! I am a N64 Fanboy The best memories of my childhood were me playing hours and hours of Goldeneye 007 deathmatch with my little brother. I think I have played almost all the N64 games whenever I had my console. Good memories indeed!!!
Thanks for the upload! I think this footage has been seen before, but this is at a much higher resolution and frame rate than the other videos, I believe. In lieu of the old builds themselves, I would absolutely love to get my hands on the larger reel of source footage those Zelda clips came from.
Usually this has been shown as separate clips but at very low res with poor frame rate. Thank you so much for uploading this. We now have a clearer image of how ocarina of time ran this early in development. Seems to have a better frame rate. Plus nice seeing cleaner image of how mother 3 and rev limit looked.
Huh, I think I can push even better video quality out of this knowing that this is more important now. I digitized this using this capture device: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Grabber-designed-capture-source-editing/dp/B000S0QIPI and I used composite as the connection. The VCR was a Hitachi VT-F392A. Would it be worth it to record with S-Video or something else? I recorded the actual video by using the ezgrabber application to view the video on my desktop and used fraps on 30fps to capture that window.
It's nice to get the best possible quality of these videos. If you got the time that would be awesome!
Unsure about those points, Rocky, but could you take a look at this as well? I'm noticing a lot of frame blending in the video you uploaded: This happens when your source footage is one frame rate, but the video you're rendering out is a different frame rate, and the software is blending the frames together to make them match the target frame rate.
Not sure if s-video would make much difference since VHS is encoded in composite. Guess you could give it a shot to see how it looks. Was the original video running at 60fps?
Neat. Among all of the games shown here, I think Kirby's Air Ride was the only one to get canceled (or reworked for the GameCube). If I'd seen this back in the '90s, I would probably have asked, as I did with many Nintendo 64 previews, "Where are the RPGs?" That was my favorite genre back then, and the N64 had nothing out of the gate apart from the vaguely RPG-ish Wonder Project J2.
I have a dreamcast Midi cable, those seem to be pretty rare accessories. I love mine, use Otoire stuff in my music all the time. If only I can get the Saturn midi cable now, hmm
