Did this game ever get to be at least programmed to some kind of an alpha or beta form? Looks like a very shadowy case to me. (if it really was in developement) I found a vid about it and i am wondering if some kind of demo was ever shown at japanese expos. HERE is the vid i found.. ....and another interesting LINK were they claim that MGS64 has been in developement for about 2 full years!!!
Those graphics definitely look N64 quality. Maybe they actually got some of the game done on there before porting.
Just like vf3 on saturn, that video is mislabeled. That was a concept trailer to show what metal gear would be like on the psx. It's been posted in this forum before under the post video section I believe.
Yeah, that video looks too good to be on the N64. If it were on the N64, it would have to have the most sophisticated engine ever developed for the system.
Plus, parts of this video [Grey Fox, Hind, etc.] were incorporated into early PlayStation trailers which are present on several bonus discs [like the MGS2 bonus DVD]. I don't think Konami would use N64 footage to show off their PlayStation game and, like la-li-lu-le-lo said, this looks too good, especially the fog and smoke effects. Far better than anything seen on N64.
there was a mention of MGS for N64 in the news section of Nintendo Power, the Greek official nintendo mag, but nothing more afaik. The video in the link is not of a N64 version, it's probably just a mock-up version as the graphics really look closer to what the PSX could do, especially in terms of geometry and clarity (Konami's engines on the n64 weren't exactly the best ones around, and that includes Hybrid Heaven.)
Yeah apparently the video is a tech advertisment for PSX(thats y graphics are so neat) you can see that because of the square button in 1:02-1:05 approx. I would really love to see some more light shed on this case. anyone know if this thing has been shown at any expos as a proto? If yes it will be in Nintys hq like many other games
so? why didnt it get an actual release? why was it cancelled? did it show up at any expos like te n64 resident evil demo?
I realize that you are excited at the prospect of new info about this "game", but you really ought to refrain from asking the same questions over and over. I've got nothing to go by here, but my hunch is that this thing never got off the ground and basically stalled out in the planning phase. I would also venture to guess that Sony may have been very covetous of MGS exclusivity. Perhaps they traded large sums of money to keep Metal Gear PS only.
Hmm... im sorry to hear that. I didnt think i did something like that. Since nobody answered to my question about its possible demonstration at an expo. You were the first one to answer that. I am not trying to keep this thread alive only to satisfy myself, get the attention of the forum members and and raise my post count. I am sorry if what i did was percieved like that. It was not my purpose. I am just a fan of the series and would like to discuss this matter... I think forums work like that.
No I didn't mean like that. I didn't think you were bumping this for any selfish reasons. I know what it's like to get excited at the prospect of any new information. By all mean keep posting and asking questions. It just seemed to me that you were being a tad bit repetitive in your enthusiasm for any news. Anyway, if there is any information on this beyond what is already mentioned then I'm sure someone will enlighten us eventually. *edit* Basically I was just saying that you should be patient and if anyone knows anything they will find their way into this thread I'm sure.
Misunderstanding 64 That was a target video for the MGS on the PSX. No doubt about it. At the time before the release of MGS, there was a spanish PS-only magazine(PlayStation Power - circa 97), that had an interview with Hideo Kojima about the game. The images shown were from this exact same trailer. If I remember right, even the Sega Saturn was mentioned by the interviewer in a question, and Kojima replied sayIng that the game would be possible on the console only with the "oh-so-fabled" SS expansion - almost the same thing we see today when Kojima talks about PS3 vs. X360. (I don't wanna lift any -ism flag, but I hope that this E3 ends with this Kojima+Sony chit-chat, btw.. ;p ) For the researchers: The mag. had an (glossy) white/silver cover, with an "classic" MGS1 artwork, showing Solid Snake's face. Besides Kojima's interview, the mag had a huge report on Resident Evil 2(nope, not a thing about 1,5.. lol) and a tidbit about Masaaya Matsuura's plans on his next game(Later unveiled as UJL). I'm not saying that the rumours about MGS64 never existed, but they were completely debunked when Konami revealed Hybrid Heaven. That was just a rumor/misunderstanding, made by the game magazines @ that time. MGS64? I'd rather to call it misinformation 64 - myth busted.. I guess!
Ithink they probably wanted to do it on 64, then moved on playstation. Anyway,Redronin is right, i thing i know which mag you're talking about...
Eh? Sony didn't lose MGS exclusivity until the Gamecube Twin Snakes port (or the earlier PC port if that counts). Not sure this warrants a bump, either way.
1. No part of this was running on a playstation 2. No part of this was running on a saturn Dead giveaway: bilinear filtering on the textures. The entire thing is prerendered. They probably used art assets from a work in progress or adapted them from an existing game, but they are still prerendered. The smoke effects are also a dead giveaway that it's not realtime. This got as far as the N64 version of Final Fantasy
