    Hi guys,

    Recently I acquired two N64 consoles, one being the standard Grey (circa 1996 motherboard) and an Ice Blue (2000). Both boards slightly differ, both boards are PAL.

    I've already managed to blow the power supply, so I've ordered replacement ceramic fuses off of eBay though I may have to change the two soldered in ones (hopefully not...) - I took everything apart, went to test the board, put expansion pack in wrong way - nekminnit dead.

    Anyway, I've cleaned everything, given areas a rub down and clean with isopropyl, brushed dust and dirt away with a toothbrush, taken the cartridge slot out and cleaned everything.

    Here's the issues;
    1. 2000 board; video output, no audio.
    2. 1996 board; no video output, no audio output

    Upon cleaning, board number 2 appears to work as normal.

    Board number 1 has video, no audio.

    Is there anything specific I'm missing to ensure audio runs? Any specific capacitor requiring replacement? Any specific chip to check for broken legs or traces? For what it is worth there doesn't appear to be any broken traces or legs anywhere as it is so I am truly unsure. The cartridge slot (detachable part) doesn't appear in great shape as the outside is fairly oxidised. Any decent way to clean the contacts inside? Doesn't appear to be a part easily found online to buy ie. no one makes third party replacements?

    Kind regards,

    Paul

    Cleaning the cart slot isn't too difficult. Take a credit card or similar, wrap in felt cloth, apply a little of the highest % rubbing alcohol you have and move it up and down along the cart slot.

    you can pull the cart slots off the mobo and wash in a non corrosive solution..

    Clean the multiout on the console as well as checking for cold joints on the pcb on the multiout.

    Check the mobo for corrosion, I had one come in once, where something (most likely food) fell into the cart slot and onto the CPU. I had to rebuild some traces leading to the GPU IIRC..

    here is the video of said system

    EDIT: DON'T FORGET to check the underside of the PCB

    Not to sound like a smart ass, but I just had a broken 64 given to me for free last week. No video, No audio. Guy said I could have it. Got power, ran the multimeter across it and caps were good. Board looked good aside form some dirt. Swapped video cables and it was good. Now its getting a RGB mod!

    BTW man... 2jz ftw!!! What model? Is it built?
