N64 NTSC - NUSC-CPU-03 - VDC-NUS-A - NS132070599 - RGB not working

Discussion in 'Modding and Hacking - Consoles and Electronics' started by simonbelmont2, Aug 11, 2010.

  1. I've have tried to mod my N64 NTSC to support RGB but without any luck.
    I've have tried different modding like:
    - sold the wires to the VDC-NUS-A (no pins lift) and the video socket - image is dark;
    - sold the wires to the VDC-NUS-A (pins lift) and the video socket - image is dark;
    - sold the wires to 3 points on the bottom of the PCB and the video socket - image is dark;
    - sold the wires to 3 points on the bottom of the PCB and 1 point and the video socket - image is bright and beautifull but have interferences (some lines on the screen something like rf-out);
    - tried with and without capacitors on the rgb scart - without the capacitors everything it's "ok" and with the capacitors the image become very dark and have interferences (some lines on the screen something like rf-out).
    So, from my point of view this VDC-NUS-A video chips have some problems with RGB modding.
    Anyway I recommand to use S-Video, bright and beautifull image.

    There are documents I remember reading that said only the early model N64s are moddable, if my memory serves me right. Have you actually read any of them properly before just trying something that won't work?

  3. This is an early model (have NUS-CPU-03 and have VDC-NUS-A video chip). The modding was good but the revision of my video chip (A) I think could not accept RGB signal very good without an aplification (this was the only modding that I didn't try).

    You need also an RGB Booster mod. This can build in the system, or in the RGB cable. I have an RGB booster cable for sale. If you are interested, PM me. With this cable and the RGB mod you got an really nice rgb picture ;-).

  6. I'm a little angry that I have tested 4 mods and without any luck. Lot's of people and some of my friends mod the N46 using the method with the lifted pins with succes but in my case nothing. I think they all have the VDC-NUS not the VDC-NUS-A.
    Somebody with this video chip revision have mod the N64 using the method with the lifted pins?
    Anyway it's a little strange that on the mmmonkey site it say if you lift the pins the image will be bright but in my case the method two with the easy amplification mod work with bright but have interferences.
    By the way my tv is CRT. Thank you Jackhead for your offer but I reverted to normal the console. Now I use the S-Video cable. I will stay with S-Video quality. NINTENDO S_X!
