n64 pal ntsc mod.

    In this thread there has been a discussion to use an FPGA for the PIF switching. With an FPGA it is also possible to supply the correct input frequencies (PAL and NTSC N64s run at different fequencies).

    As for myself, I want to give the clock switching a try some day. Getting a NTSC N64 just for the PIF is too expensive for me, as I can just run NTSC games with a flashcard.

    Sorry about late contribution. I finally opened up my multi region n64 from Otaku and took a pic. Unfortunately i didn't take a pic of where the bunch of wires went to on the bottom of the board.

    Does anyone know whether they are using a specific MOBO for this mod?

    I know from doing the UltraHDMI mod that some signals differ on the PIF chips.

    I’m asking as I want to move this region free mod onto a ‘simple RGB’ MOBO and I’m worried I might send the wrong signals through the mod and blow it up if the PIF pinouts are different.

    Any help appreciated.

    The PIF pinouts are the same; the board design around the PIF location differs slightly.
