For some odd reason my 64 power supply is making a buzzing noise. What is funny is the buzzing changes volume depending on what's going on-screen. For example in a game like killer instinct gold, it buzzes, but the buzzing gets louder when the next challenger screen comes up, but goes back to normal buzzing when the the fight begins. What is funny is when I use the everdrive 64 the main menu there is no buzzing. However when I load a game it buzzes like my other carts do. Is it possible I have a bad power supply?

Would explain it, never heard of caps buzzing though. So should I replace my 64 power supply to be on the safe side?

I dont know the details of the inside of the N64 PSU - I just know it happens with TV's and such - so its an educated guess. I assume its a switching PSU and has caps within it.

How loud is this buzzing noise exactly? because if its quite loud - its probably something else.

It louder then it should be when the buzzing gets loud thats for sure. What is funny was when I played my retail copy of wave race, when I kinda shook or tilted the power supply the buzzing would go away. And believe me the sound is coming from there cause I listen closely to the rest of the system and hear nothing.

If it goes away when you shake it, sounds like something has come loose or a dry joint?

I suppose if you are handy with a soldering iron, you could touch everything up and see if it helps. Or just buy a replacement?

I might as well get a replacement. Cause I have opened the power supply, but can't quite pull the pcb out.

I've got a server PSU that does the same intermitently, and my old HUGE UPS used to do the same, I could fix it quite easily with the UPS though, as strange as it sounds I'd hit it and usually it'd stop the noise for a good few hours.

It was the power supply, got another one at a thrift store for $5 and I hear no buzzing at all.
