Hello,i have a quistion about the Nintendo 64 Does the PAL model outputs S-Video?because im buying an S-video Cable off the internet and if it does,is the pic better or worse than composite if plugged on a SCART?
I think it does. Google should find it. A composite picture looks the same regardless of whether it is fed through a SCART adapter or not- it is the same signal.
Hmmm... What about the NTSC/NTSC-J Units? Do they support S-video cables? btw what is the resolution of an Svideo cable plugged in a N64?
Yeah, NTSC do- I'm using an American NTSC unit myself with an S-Video lead. Google reports 'mainly 320x240 and maximum 640 x 480', obviously interlaced. Check these threads of mine for some interesteing video cable/N64 discussion.. http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21134 http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19411
Well yeah, otherwise whats the point of using an S-Video cable above composite. Check that thread; Svideo provides noticeable improvement above composite. Off the top of my head, it outputs composite and S-Video. It does not output RGB (argh) but you can mod it so that it does, although I've heard that it can be weak. With regards to PAL machines, to quote Wikipedia, "In the United Kingdom, the N64 was instead shipped with a coaxial adapter and cable, but was still fully compatible with the other connectors."
Was just doing some 'research', people have experienced newer N64s being unable to output S-Video- namely the transparent colour models. You may like to do some more proper investigating before you make a purchase; yours was from the same era (as indicated by the same box packaging)
If I recall the 640x480 was only for certain games if you had the memory expansion. One for example I remember was Supercross 2000's game resolution got bumped up to 640x480 if you had the expansion. As far as the colered models not being able to use s-video there may be some innacuracies on that since I know mine does. If I remember I got my green one when the colored systems first came out so it may be later ones or that thing is just a load of crap and all models support s-video.
Some one in a forum somewhere reported his green model showing no picture (only sound) whilst his grey model worked fully with the same cable. Just throwing some Google findings at ya
Are you talking about the PAL consoles? Because the S-Video was taken out of the PAL ones, as it ended removing it completely from the Gamecube... You can search a little more and learn that the S-Video cable needs a modification to work with the PAL S-Video capable consoles. Weird?
ive beel mailing with siomebody who has a PAL n64 S-Video cable, and she said she the problem that newer models wont output S-video,is serial number 15××××× old?
