    Hello,

I recently bought a region converter cartridge to play harvest moon 64 (ntsc) on my pal n64, but I only get a black screen.

The region converter cartridge has no brand on it.

Am I supposed to put a particular game on the back of the region converter for harvest moon 64 to start working?
I would be grateful for any kind of help.

If I'm correct, Harvest Moon 64 didn't have the standart 6102 cic chip. A lot of converters don't have 100% compatibility, so chances are it doesn't work with this game. If you would know the brand of the converter, it would greatly help to understand the problem.

I think I have a pretty cheap and standard converter, it's a plain grey one but there is no brand on it anywhere.

I also have a cheat device called 'blaze xplorer 64', is it possible to use this as a region key?

According to this list, Harvest Moon 64 does use the 6102. So theoretically, all you'd need to get the game to work is a PAL cartridge with the same type of CIC in the back of the adapter (Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, etc.) Not exactly sure if the save type has to match as well, as it's been a long time since I used a "dumb" adapter like this, that is, as opposed to a "smart" one like the Passport Plus III.

The Xplorer64 won't help you here btw, if I remember correctly, as that's really just a cheat cartridge with no region-related functionality.

Unfortunetly, I don't think you can use any cheat device for the n64 as a region bypass. The cic chips of the n64 games are very well designed, so they are needed for the game to boot.

Uhm, so how come that's not working for me? Just tried it:

PAL N64 with Xplorer64 and PAL Snowboard Kids? Boots. Same setup with Japanese NTSC Super Mario 64? Black screen.
NTSC N64 with GameShark v3.3 and NTSC Mario 64? Boots. Same setup with PAL SBK? Black screen.

I tried booting harvest moon with several games (including mario 64 & mario kart) but it doesn't seem to work.

So, Should I buy the passport plus 3 or the blaze universal games adapter which is easier to come by in my region?
