Hi,

I need some brain power help.

So i'm in XRGB-Mini Goodness...except for my N64
N64 Motherboard revision NUS-CPU-04

I followed this guide
http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/ntsc-nintendo-64-rgb/

I get audio. No video.
I never see the video light turn no the xrgb-mini like it does on other systems.

I am wondering if I have a Composite Sync issue going on.
I remember reading there there is no composts sync on this model.

Anybody can chime in?

Thanks

Did you use composite sync or composite video as sync? The Framemeister only supports the former, I believe. The NUS-CPU-04 model does support composite sync output; that's what APE used when he modded my console, which is an NUS-CPU-04 model. I can't say which pin you're supposed to use, but it's there, somewhere. I'm sure someone with more knowledge can explain this further.

I have many of the N64 with both the composite video and C-sync. The mini will use both with no problem. The mini also has setting for the sync. But that is not it. Post a pic of the amp ou built. I bet you got the wires hooked to the chip backwards. If you look at all the pics some of the pics have the wires one way and some have the wires another direction. The board that the THS7314 is mounted to is different and the traces are different. I will check back later. I am a PRO with RGB and the N64. I have done 50+ of these and I used the mmmonkey site also.

Several things that could be happening here:

1)The 04 doesn't have C-SYNC wired up. At all. You can wire it up directly from the encoder but it NEEDS TO BE BUFFERED FOR THE LOVE OF THOR.
2)Depending on what SCART cable you got (I'm assuming the mini accepts SCART) you either got one that uses composite video for sync or C-SYNC for sync. Most use composite video and usually it's good enough.

Assuming you get a power light you haven't killed the N64, which is good. Lack of audio is not good. Does it work fine with standard composite video cables? Take a picture of your installation as well, what bothers me is the lack of audio more than anything. I've accidentally installed the amp in backwards (output to the input and input to the output) and it doesn't produce a picture but the console will spit out sync causing the TV to "recognize" that it's being fed a signal.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for the support.

1. I do have audio. Just no video.
2. I do have power and composite works fine. Seems that nothing is fried...yet.

Here is the kit I bought.

Here is the SNES cable that works great with the SNES

Here are some pictures.
I had a tough time trying to upload them so I had to use imgur.
Sorry about having to click out of here.

Some of the picture were taken by Mr.Blurry Cam...My camera had a hard time focusing and these were a few of the better pictures.

Please let me know what else I can provide.

You can use a LM1881 for buffered C-sync

I think the issue is the scart cable not having all the grounds hooked up. He does get audio but no video. I have had this issue before. I bought a cable that did not have the RED GREEN BLUE did not have grounds hooked up and once I grounded them the video came up right away. I have one of those cheap cables that I will look at in a little bit.

I just opened the scart cable and just as I thought the grounds are not hooked up! Later today I will hook it up to the mini and see if the mini gets video with those grounds not hooked up!

UPDATE after looking at his pics I think the power and ground are on the wrong side of the PCB that the chip is mounted to. Unless the traces are different then the board I am using. Does the chip get hot?

BTW there is a official nintendo JAP21 RGB cable on ebay for 40 bucks with shipping included. It is with the box and bag also. Says used only a couple of times! That is really cheap!!!

This is what the seller sent me:

To answer your question, the input is on the red/white, green/white and blue/white leads, ground is solid brown, 5V is brown/white and output is in the solid red, green, blue leads. The resistors must be installed on the output side so that input->RGB amp->resistors->multi out.

In my experience, the best way to install is to use the extra long leads that I provide to connect to the C124, C125, and C126 pads on the bottom of the mainboard, 5V is pulled from the multi out, ground is pulled from the multi out as well. Using the extra long leads the amp should be secured in a open cavity somewhere inside of the N64 (usually along the right side and secured with hot glue).

This is what I sent the seller:

I get +5v on the Brown to Brown/white wires.

C124 - red/white
C125 - green/white
C125 - blue/white

Output has resistors soldered to wire on both sides.
Then shrink wrapped.

AV Multi Out
+5V Brown White
G - Brown
1 - Red
2- Green
To the left of 2 when hold the board with the controller ports down - Blue White.

Note: In my picture I changed the C12x to the Rx points on the board thinking maybe that was the reason.

OH, didn't answer the question.

Chip doesn't seem to get hot. But it is hard to tell.
I left it on for a few minutes while Star Fox was playing music...since I have no video :)

You are using a "raw sync" RGB cable on a console that doesn't output "raw sync" aka c-sync. Good job xD

Use a different RGB cable with composite video wired up as sync instead.

You could also wire up the luma to composite sync on the multiout, that should work with the Framemeister and it'll give you a better result than using composite video as sync.

???

Didn't you already say this in another thread of yours? What does that have to do with what I just said?

Looks like Composite Sync which should be Pin 3 on my board connects to Pin 20 on my SCART cable (its the pin in the diagonal corner)

Does that make any sense?

OK, I forgot to explain my solution.
I ended up getting a non-raw-sync cable and everything worked fine.

I'm not sure the difference of raw sync, and the sync used on a standard scart cable.
