A few years ago I purchased a Japanese N64 that was modified for RGB and had the brightness fixed from Retro Console Goods in the UK. It had a nice clean and bright picture. Recently, the SCART cable that came with the unit broke. I tried using the SCART cable from my SNES and the picture is too dark using this cable. Increasing the brightness on the TV makes the picture too washed out. Does anyone have any idea what kind of SCART cable I need to get as a replacement that will make the picture brighter? I'm not sure HOW this was modded but I tried plugging in the N64 with a Composite and S-Video connection and there is no picture from these connections. Many thanks! Sarge
Is this an official Snes SCART? If not I would open it up- check if you have caps or resistors on your cable, I'd say you have caps and need the other type http://members.optusnet.com.au/eviltim/gamescart/gamescart.htm#snes
Thanks for the reply. It's not official. I opened it up and it looks the same as the non-functioning cable - it has a single electronic component (don't know what it is) attached to two of the pins.
Thanks Pikmin. I'd have to find someone to do it for me though - I don't have a clue about that sort of thing. I was hoping to buy a cable that did the job. I found a site that says using a SNES PAL SCART will darken the image and they offer a link to a SCART Cable that will not darken the image. Here's the link (all the way at the bottom). I suppose I should open up the N64 and find out what sort of mod it is... http://www.otakus-store.net/en/content/10-n64-rgb-kit
Wait for someone else to confirm, I don't have an RGB modded N64 But I did have a dark picture on SNES where I have soldered resistors on RGB lines and it was alright after that
Interesting... I opened up the N64.... The whole mod is covered in some kind of epoxy - I can't make out what they've done but I can see any kind of obvious "amplifier".
