You may want to check with play Asia on which type of scart cable they sold you. If it is a Japanese scart, then you will most likely need a converter for a run of the mill scart to hdmi box. However, if it is a euro model, you may simply need to add some 220pf caps to the rgb lines inside the scart cable. It all really depends on your setup. In my searches, I mostly came across euro cables and it is what I use with my N64 and snes. Unfortunately, it seems that not all scart cables are made the same because one set of cables I purchased kept producing a low hum in my audio. I opened up the cable but couldn't find any noticeable difference between it and another cable that was quiet. It probably has something to do with the quality of the wire used.

You may want to look into a gbs8820 box for your upscaling needs. For the price (35-50) these work decently and connect directly to VGA. Personally, I have not been able to get mine to work correctly without going through a scart-to-yuv converter, which adds lag and which is why I sprung for a XRGB2+, but many others havent seemed to have any issues with them. There is a thread that goes into more detail regarding them.

I have a NTSC N64 I'm in the UK. so from what I'm reading to get RGB on a NTSC n64 all you'll need is a modded cable? Theirs no internal modding right?

If so without me modding it. Is there anywhere I can just buy a RGB modded cable for my US N64?

    Thanks

Dont know where you read that, because thats completely wrong.

Only early NTSC models can be RGB modded and it requires internal modification.

no bloodsack, you need to make an internal mod + use a n64 SCART cable ( or gamecube/ snes scart cable ).

I just bought some days ago a n64 scart cable with a SCART to HDMI ( 720, 1080 p ) converter. I have a questions guys, which type of wire do I buy to do the mod ( which dimension ) ? 'cause I dont know much in dimension of wires, and I want to buy the good thing. dont worry, I already did some soldering before and I cant wait to do it...

I hope it'll work, man if it will, I'll have a RGB and HDMI 1080p image of n64 !!

    Hello.
I have an N64 with Board Revision 4. I have read that the ones that can be RGB modded have a chip with VDC-NUS BU9801F written on it.
Mines has the chip but it says VDC-NUS A BU9801F on it. I was wondering if that chip also applies.
    Thank you.

haha so cool, after a long process of modding minutes later, I've almost succeed the RGB mod. the image appears in 16:9 on my HDTV, plus appears that the modification was successful except that there's a green filter over the screen. It seems to indicate that only the green wire has connected correct.

let me know guys how I should improve that ! :p

it's like hard to correctly wires to the points, the spaces between are just ridiculously small.

Then I'd suggest sending it to someone who can handle it. I've done 5 N64 RGB mods without any trouble with the soldering side of things.

    Hi,

Here are two of my RGB modded N64. Those are PAL FRA models on which I added the missing SMD components to get RGB. On the orange one, I removed the PAL CIC and replaced it with an NTSC Japanese one, this way I can play US and Japanese game in RGB.

You will notice that LEDs match the color of each console ;)
    And the workbench is handmade.

Finally, I confirm: the RGB mod was successfully done !! :)

I might shoot a video footage showing how it render. what I use is as follows:

    nintendo 64 ( rgb modded ) -> to scart/HDMI converter ( 720,1080p) -> to HDTV .

it look very nice, as the picture is converted into a 16:9, plus the rgb mod is good looking. it seems like the textures and details are more pixellised than before when it was blurry.

Yeh, except I've got a stack of 3 RGB modded N64s sitting here with 4 more on the way to get modded for sale. The DAC is nice but completely unnecessary so long as RGB moddable N64s are locatable. They are a minority of N64 consoles but they're hardly as rare as say a Turbo Duo.

The DAC replacement also looks a bit fragile unless one was to put it onto a PCB.
