    Hi everybody,

do you know if one of the available SDKs can be run on a Windows 98 virtual machine and compile code to be executed on project64 (or another emulator) ? I´m trying to get rid of hardware because I need space.

Yes you can run the official devkit under VMWare without any problems, it compiles all the examples and they run at least on a real N64. Never tried an emulator.

Now if you're a little lazy and prefer to download something that someone else already sorted out search for this on google:

Yes, as sanni said, you can compile the code on a Win98 VM (that's what I've been doing). I'm not sure if you can install an N64 emulator in Win98 though, so if you don't want to keep transferring ROMs from Win98 to your host (where you presumably have emulators), then you might want to use WinXP so that you can have the SDK and the emulators on the same machine.

As for emulators, they seem work OK but they aren't perfect. You should use 1964 since it automatically limits the FPS, whereas the others don't (so if you use Nemu, for example, the frame rate will be super high and everything will look like it's in fast forward). There are also inconsistencies with fog - for some reason each emulator seems to render it differently :S.

You may want to try a 64Drive or Everdrive64 to avoid the problems with emulators. What hardware are you trying to get rid of? Will it be up for sale? :)

Edit: NVM, just saw your eBay post. Was hoping you had the Indy setup :(

N64 OS2... What exactly is this devkit ? An official one ?
What is the Nintendo 64 5.0 SDK that i see everywhere ? Is it the same thing as OS2 ?

Am I correct when I say that both are part of the SGI Indy devkit ?

Can I compile something with Partner N64 software kit and use an Everdrive 64 to launch it on a retail n64 ?

The SGI Indy was a computer which had a development board option that was used to make N64 games. The Partner was the alternative development setup.

I haven't tried this since I don't have an Everdrive64 or 64Drive, but I believe there shouldn't be any problems. Actually, the 64Drive was made specifically for development, but the Everdrive64 should work fine too.

Thanks for the answer. I asked this specific question since my Partner N64 is on Sale on Ebay but I still would like to play with N64 dev without any specific dev hardware but using official SDKs and docs with retail and flashcart hardware
