why all that hassle for just a very few, not even the best, games?
I mean you would need to put a lot of effort in it but in the end it is not much of use.
Some people will maybe try it out and just a few would use it a bit longer and thats it.

we all need something to do, lot of the things we do isn't important. so why not do something that'll be as equally important?

If we can get a custom server up and running, it could open the N64DD up to homebrew games. This isn't just for the actual hardware though. It will benefit N64DD emulators as well as N64DD owners. Also, because we can.

Hopefully with enough support, we could get Nintendo to release some N64DD titles onto the Virtual Console.

Me too. The F-Zero X Expansion Disk is the reason I want an N64DD. The thing works fine on USA N64s but carts need either the back side replaced with one from an American game, a new dust tray with no tabs installed, or remove the tabs in the dust tray.

Good luck with that, people have been begging for gamecube titles on the virtual console, the amount of people who want 64dd are not even going to be a speck compared to the gamecube

Yeah, I guess you're right. It would still be neat to see the F-Zero X Expansion Disk on the VC. They could just add it to the F-Zero X virtual console release.

Maybe someone could find a way to use the N64DD on the Wii U? I doubt it would happen but think of the possibilities! You could use 64MB diskettes on the Wii U! Screw modern optical media that holds gigabytes upon gigabytes of data, I want 64MB floppies back!!!

In all seriousness, hopefully the VC version does get patched for the expansion disk features, whether the patch be official or fan-made. If we were to migrate this server to the actual hardware, we would need a way to create new blank disks and a way to write to said disks.

Oh, I almost forgot! SimCity 64 would be nice to have on the VC too.

I have a better Idea. If Instead of restoring Randnet, why don't we use kaillera for the 64DD conversions and regular N64 games? This way, you get to battle with your friends, chat, and create fun projects (If only we can add saving function, most likely an option to save into our Everdrives / 64drive) The only thing is, could we use the USB for kaillera? Or do we have to copy the CD64's design and use that as the base and put kaillera code onto it?

Well some people are sharing there save states on Krikzz forum, you can then copy the save file in your SD card (you need an EverDrive or others cartridge) and test what others have created.

    Edit:

Someone has done it with Sim CIty 64/F Zero/Mario Paint.

Yes you need to have captured packets to have an understanding of how the network operates. The chances of there being any packet captures of randnet are very slim.
