I just discovered this thing: And it is a device to used to save state SNES games. I read the review on Amazon about its properties as a passthrough device for playing Super NES games on a Super Famicom. It is $15 and much cheaper than buying those ripoff adapters. But I am wondering do I need to have this thing powered to use the passthrough function. I don't need to save states or anything. Or should I just hack the thing?
You probably don't need to keep it powered for that function, but since the power is passed through to the SNES, you wouldn't need an extra power supply. Something to note is that you'll likely have some problems with "enhancement chip" games due to hardware conflicts.
@Calpis: Are these more reliable than the RTS function your average copier provides? I assume no more glitchy or worse since RTS suffers from all the same problems (ie. how do you save state when that act of saving state changes it?)
