*tried to edit the title with no success: it's the board + drive only, no game and no JVS included.

Hey guys, I'm kind of stuck here.

how much a Namco 246 with no JVS, or game but with the drive and in working conditions worth?

Could anyone elaborate the price of it compared to a Naomi board price?

    $40 if it's a version B, maybe $40-$60 if it's a version C.

    -edit-
You're best bet is to get a cheap game to include or you will find your self sitting on it for quite some time.

A friend of mine just founded out how to hack the dongle and insert any game on it :))))

I think I'll get a JVS and raise the price a bit.

Maybe with the right game it can reach $300.

I've seen game + dongle ONLY selling for $100 on ebay.

    1. Don't be an ass and start selling fake dongles
    2. A 246 is no where worth that with the majority of the games out there bar from some rare stuff
    3. the JVS board does not really boost the price up much
    4. Ebay prices for some games are a bit higher then reality. Some of those $100 gundam games are really only $30 range

The HW really is the cheapest part of the whole equation.

Actually I'm not aiming at ebay or this forum. The board is to heavy to over sea's shipping.
I'm actually aiming to sell to a friend here in Brazil.

The $100 that I've said was a sold listing I saw on ebay for Tekken 4 + dongle.
It actually sold for that amount according to ebay.

Anyway, thanks for letting me know it :)

Tekken 4 selling for 100$ - whoever bought that must have been crazy?.. it's a super common game, currently there's an overpriced set on ebay for 70$ or best offer, and can be found for less than 15$ if purchased from yahoo japan.

There are a few "rare" games, but they're NOT what is worth money- Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection and Soul Calibur 3 are about the only games worth a good chunk of money, and they're commonly overpriced due to being well known, not any true rarity, etc.
In the end, the hardware (especially a 246B) is worth nearly nothing, so pirating a game to sell "with" it, is making essentially 100% profit off piracy, not a nice thing to do.

Also, I'd make sure it works before selling it or whatever, the systems, just like the Playstation 2 it's based on, breaks down for a number of reasons, but unlike the PS2, most parts are not replaceable except from another arcade board. for most of the later 246 games, pretty much almost any old DVD-ROM drive will work, but earlier CD-ROM games, and games like Tekken4, RRV, etc require specific drive capabilities to function.

I've never seen those boards going for free.

Actually on sold listings it goes for a really good price:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tekken-4-...384?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43bfb21ed0

So, it would be awesome to check your sources for Namco 246 going for nearly nothing.
In real life this board sells for 100+ USD and also does the games.

Me and Defor have imported tons of 2x6 stuff from japan yahoo. Frequently units go for 1,000Y and even at times go unsold. I've sold off 246 in the past for only $30-$40 as i've gotten rid of many spares. Even if they sold for $100 randomly on ebay does not mean it's the general price (if you went to an arcade forum they would not move at $100 with no software).

The first link got a single bid.

The second link for for a 246 system + Jamma I/O + Tekken 4 DVD + security dongle and it sold for $100 US. Also on a single bid.

That's a far cry from a bare board selling for $100+ and the game selling for $100+. Not sure how you think that link justifies $100 for just a system or a game. Rather it seems pretty spot on with what subbie and defor told you.

Well it was good to know the base price.

The Naomi here sells for $350 just the board, no netdimm or anything.

With the right game I bet this board can get a really high price here in Brazil.

I'll probably sell it when it arrives from my friends house, I'll let you know how it went.

You live in Brazil- every piece of electronics has inflated value. The point here is just that straight up piracy + sales, regardless of WHERE the sales happens, isn't right.
I admit, yes, "conversions" have their place and all, but usually, conversions are designed to be obviously NOT the original thing. In the case of 246 dongles and discs- the discs were OFTEN copied by arcade ops when the game had issues reading it, so non-original discs isn't uncommon, also, there have been a number of bootleg 246 sales subbie and myself have seen and documented, but there is very little consumer awareness on the topic. Given that no CUSTOM dongles have been created that boot with the equivalent of a "PHOENIX EDITION" logo or similar, while you might sell it to a friend, or someone you know, etc.. who will they sell it to, give it to, etc...

I'm not a fan of this idea in any way. If a 50$ Naomi sells for 350$ there, you should be able a reasonable amount a 246, so sell it as it is bare!
Hell, there's people like myself and Subbie that have spares of many low-value games, and are LOOKING to sell them off for sub-ebay costs- so buy up a tekken 4 and a drive, or a gundam game, etc, and sell if as a bundle.. Let's just not create a market for pirated games please!

    Dude you are really paranoid.

This board won't go outside of Brazil.
I'm selling to a friend that knows what he's getting.

You said it's ok to copy the Disc but not the dongle so... LOL.

And... I'm not going to buy anything from you just to sell my board.

I believe I'm seeing a 64DD effect on this thread. When an obscure system gets a backup method people go nuts.
To you phoenix editions, MVS 161-in-1 carts, it's ok and namco 246 isn't so again... LOL.

I won't go into a piracy debate while we are both using copyrighted material as our avatar pictures, honestly :)

    w/e
I wasn't specifically trying to sell you anything
my point was simply that with multicarts/phoenix conversions, etc.. there's no question about the authenticity of the game.
