Received this in the mail recently from a less than transparent seller. Unit works great...for about 10 seconds before abruptly turning off, though the LED stays on. The screen simply goes black. Does it for all games though sometimes it will last a bit longer before turning off. Anywhere from 5 -15 seconds.

Any idea what mod the original owner was starting? Any insight into what's causing it to turn off?

Those loose wires look like the previous owner tried to wire up a different connector for RGB or something. No idea what those wires are near the lockout chip, but I think removing them would fix your problem.

Sorry about the picture quality - it's actually just one black wire and its shadow. Were they maybe trying to disable the lockout? On very close inspection it does seem pin 4 is cut on the right-most chip.

And with even more investigating it looks like they weren't even on the correct chip (if they were indeed going for the lockout). The F411A is clearly untouched.

Any other possible motive for tapping into that other one?

Maybe someone was trying to boot some pal games and had no idea what they were doing, but like apollo said, remove the black wire and the system should work fine.
