Naomi / Atomiswave Development?

    A very random though, but what systems were used for the development of Naomi and Atomiswave games? :confused:

    As they are based on the Dreamcast hardware, I assume they use Katana systems of some description? Although surely for developing Naomi games you would need a more powerful modified version of a standard Katana? Or maybe Sega have a device similar to a Naomi DIMM board that connects to a PC for debugging on real hardware?

    Thinking about it, I suppose this question applies for any arcade hardware that is based on a home console; whether it's more powerful or not. Do they use PS2 TOOL units for developing System 256 games or Dolphins for Tri-Force games?

    I was wondering the same thing and asked it in the middle of a post for the mystery Sega PCI card.

    Considering you can't necessarily drop arcade carts/discs in their respective console systems... actually, that may not matter, as perhaps the actual differences are made during the pressing of the carts/discs.

    There are Set 5 Dreamcast dev units that have NAOMI memory specs as opposed to those of the DC (at least according to some SEGA docs).

    Yeah, I forgot the Naomi had more RAM (basically everywhere, if I'm not mistaken).

    Is this typical practice for arcade developers? My guess would be the Sega Saturn had something very similar with the ST-V.

    I also find it odd that there's almost NO easily (or even semi-easily)-findable information regarding the subject, as if it is something as simple as the same dev hardware and maybe a partially different setup?

    Shouldn't this query be dropped into the arcade section? I asked about this a while ago and was amazed by how little information floated to the surface. Perhaps you'll have better luck!

    Well, unlike Dreamcast developers, these dev systems would still be useful. Also, with Dreamcast dev there were a bunch of places that basically fell apart as the DC did, which is why so many devkits flooded out. For these arcade systems though, a relatively small amount of developers have access to the hardware, it would be much more expensive, and have a longer shelf life.

    I wouldn't be surprised if NAOMI dev involved a device that connected the cart port to a PC.

    Another question to be raised would be what about something like hikaru? Did they make the full naomi game, get it to run on there, then just start chucking extras onto it?
