Hope im putting this in the right place. I just received a Capcom Vs SNK millennium 2000 board for the naomi! I took a gamble on it cause it was cheap. I got it for a 16 dollar bid. It wasn't tested and so i took a risk. I turned it on and it worked all the way up to the character select screen and after that it froze. I ran a test on the roms, this brought back that ic number 17 was bad. I cracked open the case and took a look each rom ic has 2 ic's inside it. To make this more clear basically the screen print says (example: ic1(ic1,ic2)) there are not 17 physical ic's for this game. Im wondering how i would fix this rom chip. The chips are surface mount and i would have to find a way to program a new chip and surface mount it to the board. Or find an alternative. Such as finding a user who has a junk version with a working ic i need. Or i could take a gamble on buying another broken one and fix the one that can be fixed using the spare chips on hand :3. These carts also have thru-holes and traces that make me think it has a programmer pin out on it. If anyone has experiance or pointers please let me know!
Replacing surface mount ic is easy, maybe someone on here can supply a replacement one. Do you own a hot air gun?
No. But i can buy one hehe! my town has a electronics shop you know like the bad ass ones with like everything in it and they actually know stuff lol. acutually ... i kinda d**ked around with one of the ic's i prolly shouldnt have cause i used to much heat and lifted the trace a bit i retested the board after that mess and it still has the same problem so luckily I didnt derp it up unless i just dont know.... I have done plenty of solderwork and little to no surface solder work. I found out all those surface mounts arent the game data persay they are buffers so i may or may not have derped that up if someone is willing to fix it for a reasonable price. That is a pretty cool guy in my book. Basically this one thread online i read said you should try and replace every one of those buffers. I would rather have someone else try to save this guy rather than me. Though its never to late to learn to surface mount. Im just scared about the 2 lifted traces. O-o Edit: Technically if the buffer ic i messed with is ok (which sadly i confused it for the one that was bad aka it wasn't bad) i will just leave it the daisy alone!
I think its all good i tested the rom board one more time but this time from the rom boards own test menu that ic is pulling up good every time i think its fine. I need to find the type of ic i need and just replace the culprit really. i could always invest 40 dollars or something around that line for a heat gun hell maybe the electronics shop will replace it for me for a fee as long as i have the chip! They are really awsome
After talking to some knowlegable people i found out its not worth it in cost and time to try and flash a new chip for the board. I will be posting on the assembler games WTB about buying a broken for parts capcom vs snk millennium fight 2000 cart with a working chip i need!
