I'm starting to get a bit of a Naomi arcade collection going now but was stumped as to how to store the actual cartridges. So today I decided to make my own cases which are actually pretty solid. The main case is a standard B5 size file holder approximately 4.5cm deep. The covers are bubble jet printed although a home ink jet printer will do just as good a job. I've also laminated the art work for reasons you'll find out soon. First you need to layer a double layer of bubble wrap on the bottom of the case using good quality double sided tape. Next you need to do the top of the case. I decided it would be better to place the cover art inside the case. This way it saves it from any damage. Place double sided tape around the edge of your cover art. This is why I laminated them. If you make a mistake you can just remove the tape and start again. Also laminating the image will preserve the ink quality from fading. After placing the tape around the image, fit it in to the top of the B5 case. Now you need to protect the top of the case, so again lay a double layer of bubble wrap over the cover you just fitted using spray glue or double sided tape. Now your cartridge will sit snug as a bug. Free from knocks, slips and what have you. The cartridges are also locked in to place by the bubble wrap so they won't side about in the case. OK, now we need a spine. Again this will be fitted to the inside of the case. But because the case splits when opening you only need to attach the spine to the lower part of the case with double sided tape as shown by the red marks on the photo below. Nice cases and nice collection you got going there. I need to stop being lazy and start making PS2 size case inserts for all my 246/256 arcade games. =P Btw, does the misses know about the DOA case? =)

Kudos to your creativity. Even made a spine for it. Just be careful with that bubblewrap. Some plastics, after some time, get sticky on anything close to it.
really nice solution. I'm expecting a couple of naomi universals this weekend weather permitting. I may well end up stealing this idea. I guess they're too small for mvs carts...
Ah, good point. Maybe a sheet of paper over the bubble wrap is in order? Thomj, how tall are MVS carts? I thik they'll fit but if not you could always use an A4 size case although that may be too big. The B5 size is deep enough and wide enough for a MVS cartridge but I'm not sure about the height.
Awesome work Yakumo, although personally I'd give some more work towards creating a layout for those covers instead of just artwork+naomi logo You've been in Japan for too long mate You'd be surprised at how difficult it is (ie impossible) to find simple stuff like these boxes in some country's. I've been through hell to find some display cases for some figures, had to use cellphone display cases that were dumped in the trash by a nearby shop
Yeah, I know. Especially since I'm known for my professional level Dreamcast CD case designs. Thesedays though, I just don't have the time I guess you're right. I'd happily send these cases over seas for people but the shipping is pretty expensive when you consider each case is only 110 yen. :banghead: That's sad. They even sell those for under 600 yen here in Japan. I bought one a while back to put my game space ship models in. Looks cool having the ships from R-Type, Layer Section, Granada, In the Hunt and so on all on display.
kind of off topic but how are Naomi carts shipped/distributed originally? Carboard boxes? Bubblewrap baggies? Any pictures? I know the GD-Roms come in a see-thru dvd case with a dongle and manual serving as cover
They were shipped inside a cardboard box, well stuffed with bubblewrap and plastic baggies. I don't think the bubblewrap will harm the PCBs except maybe if you never change over several decades. All PCB collectors store their boards in bubblewrap, it's definitely the way to go.
I found out on a different site that blue and pink bubblewral os anti static. I never knew that but it explains why all my Naomi stuff came wrapped in pink or blue bubble wrap. I dout you could damage a Namoi cart with static anyway.
