Anyone out there with a prototype unit already knew this, but now that the news has leaked in a major way thanks to a tester what do you guys think of head tracking?

    Useful in games? Or pointless?

    Photos at: http://www.gamesradar.com/f/why-would-natal-need-a-motor-and-tilt/a-20100421113834411093

Microsoft Italy already had them pulled from the original leak site. Why is it that all these leaks always seem to come from Europe? ;)

Interesting, but the head tracking thing explains alot, one of the new password input betas on pnet asks you to place your head in front of the keyboard. Now i understand...

Depends on the Devs. If they utilize it to its full extent then yes, but if not? pointless.

Wow, I didn't know this was already out in the wild for testing. Can't wait to play with it and make some homebrew to use it ;D

One of the promised features of Natal is the ability to login to your profile via facial recognition. Assuming the feature works, it wouldn't be impossible to use as some sort of protection.

    While we are at it,
Natal is a really great device, snatched the device at the studio to test at work, wonder how Fable 3 will do with it..

I can't wait to see the difference between this and the PS3 move. I'll enjoy some of the features this brings, but I'm just really hoping it'll live up to its hype - or surpass it.

Oh, and the whole head tracking thing, there could be tons of ways to utilize it in games. If they involve your head in some way or another (like a soccer head-butt), it makes total sense to implement it. It just gives more options on the things you can do, I guess.

If I were Microsoft I would use the PS3 remotes along with natal. Two wiimotes in each hand doesn't rival Microsoft's full on intelligent motion tracking device but Sony is right when they say pretending to have a gun is lame. If Microsoft finds a balance then it will be the final kick in Sonys side rather than just being a bit ahead. Of course Natal kicks two [IMG] "Dildos" asses anyday but the need to atleast have a button controlled gun in your hand is a definiate must aswell. Like I said hope Microsoft finds the balance in this.

    Point of including someone's photo?

Or is including that picture right next to "Dildos" supposed to be a witty way of tossing out an insult? If it is, it's not working.

    Clean it up.

I can't see how having a lack of a standardized reference/measurement can be better (talking about PS' wands vs Natal).

As for any sort of motor/servo... I hate moving parts. I can see these things getting jammed and stripping out and causing all sorts of problems. Finding them in bins in the back of game stores all loose and floppy or, alternately, locked up.

Unless the device doesn't move on the outside. Kinda like those Lexus headlights that pivot as you turn - all internal?

Damnit. I sound like one of those speculators. Useless.

All this talk about voice commands and Facebook integration and such makes me want to lock myself in my bedroom, unplug the internet, and sob in the corner.
