Just recently bought an everdrive and I'm extremely impressed with it. My only question is does anyone know of a patch that would fix the EEPROM saving in NBA Jam to SRAM? I read there was a patch for Wonder Boy so I was curious if anybody had a similar fix? Thanks
Not to my knowledge. NBA Jam TE won't work without using a hack rom that avoids EEPROM. Did you try saving NBA Jam?
The game will save my initials as long as the console is on but once the power is off it isn't saved anymore. I have an original cartridge of Jam so it's not a big problem. Everything else I tested on Everdrive worked perfectly. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
As far as I've found, the only game that anyone has spent the effort to convert an EEPROM saving rom to SRAM was Mega Man Wily Wars.
Someone did a hack for Wonderboy in Monster World. Also I'm pretty sure there is a hack out there that makes NBA Jam not hang. These patches existed before EverDrive for other devices like Copiers, Emulators, Flash Cartridges, etc.
Well Mega Man Wily Wars was done because for whatever reason, emulator authors couldn't figure out its save method or didn't find it worth messing with. I haven't heard any speak up about which is the case.
Mega Man The Wily Wars was done because I wanted to play the game as intended. Yes it's correct that emulators don't support the Serial EEPROM saving it uses and that was the primary reason I had for hacking it. It was not that you couldn't play Wily Tower, hacked save states existed. But you didn't get to see the introduction or select it on the menu or just be able to save your progress normally and come back later. http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/514/ Any game uses Serial EEPROM to save could potentially be hacked to use SRAM if needed. But the list of those games is very small. The most notable already having been hacked, MegaMan and Wonderboy.
Oh! So that's you. I should be more thankful then. I guess I won't know what I was thinking of without contacting someone actively involved in Genesis/MD emulation. Even then it'd be a technical answer over my head, hehe.
