Found this in one big electronics store around here: click. It's a black or dark-blue Nintendo DS Lite with a yellow Mario figure on the left and some text ("Nintendo World" maybe) printed or engraved on the right. The package reads "Nintendo World" in the lower right corner and below that somewhat illegible "New York". It has the Super Mario 64 DS logo on it but a label says that it is bundled with New Super Mario Bros. which seems kind of weird. The only result that google gives me in that area is a limited edition with a red system but I couldn't find anything about this one. Who knows more? Was it a limited release or just a special edition and when did it come out? P.S. Yes, I blurred the price. It might be worth reselling one or two, even though the price is rather high to begin with.
Well, most special editions of hardware are just that: same specs inside, different looks. That doesn't make them less "special" or sought after.
In China they sell every version of the NDSL. That is, they have shell replacements which are clones of the real deal in every style ever avaliable so whatever you want, they can put it on your console for you before you pick it up.
That's what I meant, but said in better words. And they even have a few that don't exist officially like Naruto, Dragonball Z, this one and 3 others like it. Here are some of the shell replacements.
So, what you mean, is that they took some shell replacement made in China, sticked an NDS inside and bundled it with one game and are now selling this for approx. 180 EUR/260 USD? Probably you get a "normal" NDS plus the extra shell replacement and game but it really looks as if they sell it already assembled. The package did look fishy but for that price tag I thought they might actually have imported some limited edition. The only thing that would top selling fake parts in a representative store that is part of a chain, is if the New Super Mario Bros. game is also a Chinese pirate copy... I wouldn't be too surprised. Thanks for the information and link. I did look for it on kaori30's site but didn't find it.
It's being sold in Romania I suppose? That should wipe out any doubts about the system's origin Seriously, no original DS system was shrinkwrapped. There are logos of two different Mario games on it, the packaging looks fishy and no one has ever seen this edition before. And why the hell would a Romanian shop have FOUR copies of a supposedly rare Nintendo World Store-Edition for display?
Here is a website that sells these kinds of things and one that looks to be from the same theme. http://www.dhgate.com/wholesale/nintendo-ds-lite-consoles/c290208.html http://www.dhgate.com/20pcs-brand-new-exclusive-jet-black-mario/p-ff80808120a34d670120a39c127b7d81.html http://www.dhgate.com/jet-black-mario-nintendo-nds-lite-ndsl-console/p-ff808081213dfb29012140cc3a356310.html Edit: Actually here is your one... http://www.dhgate.com/1pcs-black-mario-limited-edition-ndsl-ds/p-ff8080812165289101216daf6a1b614a.html
It's not that bad actually. While it's common to own a modded X360 and a buch of copied games, shops usually don't sell pirated stuff. Definitely no more street sales of Chinese fakes like five years ago (last time I was here). Sony is actually pretty big and I see many playing on their PSPs when I ride the metro. All new-gen systems are present (at the usual European prices) and Nintendo is also quite popular and has recently launched a campaign with a big network company to promote the Wii. It's just - I guess - that there are no controls and few really care about original or copied products and that's how it can come to situations like the one discussed here. And thanks, Paulo, for the link. That makes it all clear now. Pretty neat margin for the store. Someone should sue them.
