    Hi!

As most of you know the backlight modkit is no longer available to buy and you need to slaughter a SP to get a screen.

I was thinking, wouldn't it be possible to use a DS screen for the GBA? It's ABOUT the same size and resolution isn't far off. I haven't found any specs on the GBA lcd pinout but I'm guessing they're aren't exactly matching. So I'm thinking, wouldn't it be possible to just build a small "middleman" with a microcontroller to convert signals sent from GBA to be shown on a DS screen?

    What do you guys think?

I have seen a DS screen backlight used for Dreamcast VMU:
Perhaps an option.. not sure if there's room back there/
My GBA is begging for a backlight as well...

Cant wait to see what others think about using the DS screen.

This guy only seem to use the light part of the DS screen. If I recall right there are no backlight mods like this one http://handheldlegend.com/collectio...y-backlight-dmg-and-pocket?variant=4515813315 for the GBA/GBC because it just wouldn't work - not really sure why. There are frontlight kits though but personally I think backlight looks way better.

I've looked around for a pinout diagram for the GBA/DS lcd but without luck. I figured you could start by just reading the data from the GBA and outputting it on another screen. An arduino with some shift registers should do the job for testing using something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/252062367327?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

So if someone has a diagram to share, it'd be appreciated.

    the displays are different
It won't work, the GBC and GBA screens use a reflector, light comes in from the front and gets pushed back out, Thats why it looks like crap...

Depends on the screen probably too. The Phat DS was a transflective screen. Can't remember if front or back though.

My idea isn't to use the backlight from the screen and put it in the GBA screen. I'm thinking I would throw the GBA screen in the trash and buy a NDS/NDSL screen, whichever is best suited and send the video signals sent from the GBA to the NDS screen instead.

Much like this guy did for the original GB https://flashingleds.wordpress.com/2010/10/26/intercepting-the-gameboy-lcd/

    Edit**

    Found some pinout projects
