Redirected by a reddit user ( http://redd.it/2dnb1l ) I came here to seek salvation.

I have this wanna-be SEGA ( http://imgur.com/N1QFWJm ) that my father brought from overseas. It is a CD/DVD player that had some sort of a SEGA CD with it. The CD was probably Chinese and it said it had 571 or something games on it. Some of them are well known like Gunstar Heroes and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The problem is that I lost the CD and I want to play really badly. Anyone has this CD? The CD is blue and it has a helicopter on it. When put into the player, there's one really cool intro and then there's the menu. Help pretty please!

I've seen those before. It's a DVD player with built in Mega Drive emulator. The CD that came with it would have contained only Mega Drive games, Not Mega CD games. Those machines also use an odd format for the ROMS so it's not even possible to just burn a load of ROMS to a disc to use in the machine. Your best bet would be to find out what format this system used then use that to make your own game CDs.

MentalWarp: I'll be happy to provide some pictures. Piictures of what?

Yakumo: Yeah, I thought of this too but I lost the CD long time ago and I have no idea what format they were. I remember playing at this SEGA when I was 4th grade in elementary school and that was it. Do you have any information about the system?

Sorry for the late response. It's not it :( The CD is blue with a helicopter on it.
    Thanks, anyway.

However, dyer60 (Thanks, man!) posted an interesting auction, where a found this link: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Print.aspx?ArticleId=6133 There is a description of a device similar to mine. I just glanced over the page and I found this

This refers me to this software but my quick google query didn't give me anything. I'll search around archives in a day or two but in the meantime, do you know something about this piece of software or something about its creator - Lik Sang ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lik_Sang )

    Thanks in advance!

From what I remember, these DVD/NES/Genesis combo machines were awful to use. I can't speak for all of them, but the ones I've seen all have major playback issues. Probably due to the poor emulation or clone parts.

Haha, I cry every time when I remember how I tried to get to the game that I wanted to play. It was so sketchy. If I was only a little bit late when selecting a language, I would get the Chinese menu instead of the English menu. And because the whole CD was organized into multiple sections, one wrong press and I would have had to restart the whole system because there was no back button. No regrets though, had fun!

The Shinco disc (auction above) is almost certainly compatible.

i have copies of the 9 game discs that came with the Shinco 868, i also have a set of 10 game discs that i made myself almost 15 years ago using the Game Generator software... i'm pretty sure that the set i made for myself contained the full PAL rom set (the software required PAL versions of the roms for it's conversion process), but i would have to check the lists...
i have spent the last few days searching through hard drives, over 25 so far, in the hope of finding the software i used to make the discs, i know i must have it somewhere due to my dislike of deleting, but as yet i still haven't found it...
earlier today i made bin & cue images of all 19 discs (and the last available firmware update disc for the 868 player) they total 3gb in size, however, i don't have any space to host these files... if anyone out there can host them, please drop me a PM with details and i'll share them...

in the meantime, if anyone out there has managed to locate a copy of the Game Generator software (ggen10.zip), PLEASE share it... :D

There's a good chance the disc from one system will work on different system. All the VCD based famiclones I've seen use the same VCD/ROM format. It's certainly worth a try if you can find an image.
I didn't know anyone made a Genesis version of these things. The local flea markets are full of Shinco stuff so hopefully I can find one. Odds of finding one with the disc are slim though.
