Hello Everyone, Has anybody ever been successful with having this work? An SCPH-5501 would normally have a KSM-440ADM lens. An SCPH-9001 would normally have a KSM-440AEM lens. Driven under the assumption that newer lens are better, I tried to install a KSM-440AEM lens assembly on an SCPH-5501. The main concern, however, is that the 40AEM's ribbon is short and won't reach its respective slot. Looking forward to your expert advice!
Just get the normal one is fine the lasers are all the same bar the scph-1001 KSM-440ADM i never found anything wrong with them units.
Thanks, bart_simpson. That is an option. Albeit a more expensive one from where I'm from since I need to acquire another 550x to salvage them lenses from. Right now, I have both 5501 and 9001 and was really hoping to salvage what I can salvage from the 9001 and pass them parts over to the 5501. The whole goal right now is (you prolly guessed it) the audio edge of the 5501 over the 9001. Maybe if I said what I'm experiencing with the 5501, that would be of better help, yes? Here we go: - Games play fine with minimal skip. (Not a real priority.) - When an audio disc is popped in, Tracks tend to skip. Some tracks are skipped altogether and the skip can be as bad as 5 tracks skipped! A few notes below: *A noticeable difference in performance happens when the unit is flipped over. Most of the time, it gets better but only very minimally. *All discs tested for this were original discs.
Hi Master991. Do you mean to say that, even if we successfully transfer the AEM lens over the the 5501, I'll still experience the skipping issue mentioned earlier? D: Do you have steps on how to pass lasers? :3
If the AEM laser is correctly working, it will fix your problems. Just that the AEM laser is no better than the ADM if they are both working correctly.
Sounds good! The AEM lens is correctly working. How does one do such a transplant of lenses? Thank you! Moreover, do you think it's possible to replace the Flex cable instead? If yes, would this path be easier for anyone?
Update: Swapped the lenses out. A marked improvement is noticed right off the bat. It appears that it isn't the lens that has a problem. Upon closer examination and comparison, it appears that the 5501's sled/lens rail (whatever you call it) is chewed up. Mounting it on the AEM's enclosure seems to have solved the problem.
Hmm... I should try your fix on my 5552 I bought. When spinning the disc,it makes a weird sound(like some faint hissing).Games kind of have a hard time reading.
