Around 6 months after the release of NFS:U in Japan (Dec 23rd 2003), there was a revision released as "Need for Speed Undeground J" under the EA Best Hits-label in Japan only. It's supposed to feature a "graphic mode" (new, japanese specific, car colors?) and some other changes, aimed at the Japanese audience. Does anyone know the exact differences between this and the original Western version? Also I don't think the J-version was ever released for Xbox and GameCube, or was it?
By the looks of the backside, it seems they implemented Japanese bodywork decals from 'ArtFactory', which were on display on a recent autosalon show? http://www.japan.ea.com/underground/
I'd have to play through it, I know underground inside out so I'd be able to spot the differences... Not sure if I'd be able to find a image of the disc...
I've never played a NFS title but region-specific releases are always interesting. After a quick search on Yahoo Auctions it seems that only the PS2 got the modified/upgraded versions. This auction also shows "NFS:U 2 - Shadou", another J-only release it seems, which also features designs by Art Factory: http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f107378396
i think more games should have region specific goodies so that we, "the modchip crowd" could play all of them
I just bought this for $5, couldn't resist and fits perfectly in my extensive "Western games for Japanese PS2" fetish collection LOL. Guess I may find out some differences as soon as I get my hands on a JPN PS2 and post them here in late June. I played quite a bit of NFS:U on PC back when it came out, so I still remember what should be there and what's new.
