So, I'm planning on mod-chipping a Gamecube (or paying someone to do it for me) in the near future, and I just need someone to help me out here since I'm kinda new to Gamecube mods. First off, is there anything I should look for (or avoid) when getting a system to mod? Also, If you have any other helpful info about Gamecube mods and whatnot it will be greatly appreciated.
Fitting a Japanese switch can be useful. It improves compatibility. Modchip alone runs Japan games in English mode. Fine for most titles, but a few have issues that way. I've heard SPDIF audio is doable. Not sure how much improvement that makes.
I do install in the US if you need someone to do it for you. I know my way around the Cube. Xeno Chip, POT adjustment and Region Switch
APE and I offer several modding services in the US and BAD_AD84 in the UK, PM any of us for your modding needs and we'll give you a quote.
I still haven't gotten a good answer to my main question. To clarify, I don't currently have a Gamecube and I'm looking to get a good one for modding. Will any Gamecube be fine for modding? and are there any problems that I should look to avoid when getting a system used?
All of them are good for modding, now if you want to play the games in 480p you will need to get a GC with digital out, you will also need an official component cable.
The Xeno chip is actually pretty easy to solder in. Its precut to only need 6 points of solder without wire or anything.
Why an official component cable? Do the generic ones just not work quite as well as the official ones?
There are no real generic ones (anything plugging into the normal AV port just converts composite or svideo). Gamecube does not even generate or output analog component. That expensive official cable actually encodes digital video into a form usable by TVs.
