Hi there, I got some MD games from a friend years ago. His parents are of asian origin (from Thailand if I´m not mistaken) and he and his brother bought most of the games when they visited their relatives over there. The Mega Drive he brought me also has a RF output nicely *cough* soldered in, though no metal shielding under its hood. But it´s modified for multi-region usage *yay*. Anyway, back to the games. Can´t read the darn titles on a good number of them, the cartridge format seems to be japanese-style with the rouded edges , but the covers have mostly no text at all on them, apart from the games name. Some of them are printed on standard glossy poster paper, while some seem to have come out of an inkjet printer. The labels on the game cartridges are glossy stickers, the back has the SEGA logo modeled above a second sticker with white on black Kanji (or similar looking characters, as I said, I am unfortunately not able to read any asian language). The Boxes also have the SEGA logo inside of them printed near the cartridge holding area, with an ® and Sega Enterprises LTD. printed below. The Jackets of the games have numbers printed on them, p.ex. Rainbow Islands Extra has A-007 on it, Elemental Master has A-031. I suppose they are bootlegs, correct? I mean, the case is clear with Comix Zone, no Sega markings whatsoever and only english text on the cart and on the back of the box, seems they copied the first page of the manual there. Tiger Heli on the other hand seems legit (I assume it´s Tiger Heli, 2 Kanji and the word TIGER below them), the box has full text on the back, the game was supposedly made by TRECO in 1991, and there´s a price on the back of 7,500 - well - something. The number on the spine reads T-24033 and the barcode on the back (this has one, a rarity) says: 4 991694 122023. Can anyone help me find out what I got there? Shall I provide pictures of the game boxes and carts? Note: All games which I wrote of until now have no instruction booklet with them whatsoever. I did however also get a few legit games, several EA RPGs for example (Rings of Power, Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday, Might & Magic: Gates to another world) and others (Street Fighter II Turbo, Populous, Traysia and a CD-X for MegaCD) which have booklets and are original carts.
Post some piccies and theres a good chance i'll be able to tell you what you have. I've picked up loads of bootleg MD carts over the years, it's turned into a sort of mini collection inside my MD collection.
lol, just found out that I should have taken a closer look at the cases, not just at the spines. Almost every game has an english name written on it ^^ Anyway, here are a few pictures. Atomic Robokid, Crude Buster, Comix Zone, Eternal Champions, Final Blow Arrow Flash, Elemental Master, Rainbow Islands Extra, Turtles Tournament Fighters, Dahna ?!? Whip Rush, Battle Golfer ?!?, Phelios, Devil Hunter Yokho (it´s evident from the back), Super Shinobi Golden Axe, Tiger Heli?, Castle of Illusion, Heavy Unit, Verytex Note that all of these on the second picture have a barcode on the box, but even the supposed "Sega" games like golden axe have no Sega-markings on the cartridge. DJ Boy, World Cup Soccer, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, King Of Lion Zool, ??? (Tetris I suppose), Busters Hidden Treasure I also have the following games which I could identify: Rings of Power (US), Buck Rogers (US), Might & Magic (US? probably, says Mega Drive on the outside of the box, but Genesis on the cartridge), Traysia (US, quite good condition), Super Street Fighter II (PAL, German), Soleil (PAL, German), Populous (PAL, German), Tiny Toon Adventures (PAL), Warlock (PAL, almost new), Battle Frenzy (PAL, cartridge only), Shining in the Darkness (PAL, cartridge only) Oh, and a CDX Pro from Datel as well as some empty boxes and manuals for games that got lost.
Dahna is correct, i believe the full title is Dahna Megami Tanjou and Battle Golfer should read Battle Golfer Yui. I've got that copy of Tetris too, it's definitley a pirate unfortunately, if it was real you'd be a very lucky man. I like that copy of Maou Renjishi, does anyone know if King of Lion is an accurate translation?
Jamtex, I expect them all to be bootlegged versions. The ones which definitely aren´t are just mentioned in text below the pictures. Was just wondering what some of them were. As the MD I have here is currently broken I cannot test the carts. The thing that puzzles me is that some of the boxes and carts that have the most piratey looking sleeves actually have raised Sega-Logos in plastic on the carts and inside the boxes. Did they use old/defective parts to put their games in? These carts also usually have the stickers with the japanese writing on the back, I can make a picture of one if you wish.
It's definitely a pirate, the original doesn't have King Of Lion printed accross the front. Thats why i was wondering if thats how Maou Renjishi translates.
